It was two hours later that Jade was reclining on the couch in her room, her back against one of the arm rests, legs spread out before her, smoking a cigarette. She inhaled deeply when she heard a knock on the door.

Without looking up, she heard Tyler open the door and step inside. He looked at her, but not once did Jade look up at him. She showed no reaction to his presence, ignoring him like he didn't exist.

Tyler came towards her, stopped two feet from the couch.

"Enjoy your vacation," he said, tossing her phone onto the couch where it bounced once and then lay still next to her legs.

Without another word, he turned on his heels and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him. Jade looked at the phone lying upside down near her. She reached out and picked it up.

Opening the text messages, Jade saw that Tyler had been talking to Lukas, pretending to be her. Before that, Jade saw half a dozen messages from Lukas, which Jade had intentionally ignored by turning off the phone.

Lukas: Good morning, my love. How are you feeling today? I know last night didn't really go as planned. Sorry about that.

Lukas: Can't wait to see you tonight. I've made a reservation at Kemal's. You'll love the place.

Lukas: Are you sleeping in today? I tried calling but your phones off. I left voice messages too. Call me back when you get up.

Lukas: Jade? Where are you?

Lukas: Babe? Jade, I'm worried about you. Please talk to me.

Lukas: I called Tyler. Maybe he can get my message to you. Don't mind, it's just cause I'm stressed out by your phone being off for so long.

Lukas: Jade!

After that, Tyler's conversation with Lukas appeared.

Jade: Hey.

Lukas: Jade! Where were you? I was so worried. I'm going to call you, talk to me!"

Jade: I'm fine. Battery failure. Can't talk. At the airport.

Lukas: AIRPORT? What's going on? Where are you going?

Jade: Mom called. She's not feeling well. Wants to see me. Going to Miami for a week. See you when I get back.

Lukas: Baby, are you sure everything's okay? Look, don't worry about it. I'm sure she'll be okay. Take care of yourself. Promise me you'll call me when you get there.

Jade: Yeah. Later.

Lukas: Bye. Love you.

Jade put the phone away, sighing. It was actually nice how Tyler had handled things. But a part of Jade wasn't ready to forgive him.

It was his fault that Lukas had gotten so close. It was Tyler, for whom Jade had tolerated it. And then he asks her what happened. What was she to say? How was Jade supposed to tell him? He wouldn't understand. Nobody could understand how much it hurt her; how it bothered her to have unwanted physical contact. Anybody else would be okay with it.

But for Jade, things were different. She couldn't have it. She couldn't allow it. It brought back too many painful memories. Too much pain. Too many tears. She couldn't let that pain overcome her. She couldn't accept it. She just couldn't.

The next morning, Jade put on a pair of jeans and a tattered old hoodie she had brought with her. Leaving her phone on the charger, she left her room.
