"Are you ready to meet Lukas?"

Jade looked up from the laptop screen towards Tyler, who was standing above her with his arms folded. She had spent the last couple of weeks stuffing her head with latest researches about biogenetics, but she knew she wouldn't be able to remember all the complicated names. She took a deep breath.

"Look," she closed the laptop screen down and looked calmly into Tyler's face. "I've tried to study all I can about this stuff. But you're ignoring the fact that knowing the basics and being a specialist are two entirely different things. I could pretend I know about biogenetics, but saying I know biogenetics...What if he asks me some details? What if he steers the conversation that way? What will I do?"

"You'll just have to improvise," Tyler said indifferently.

"He'll see right through it," Jade argued back. "I can't say I'm a specialist in the field and then try to improvise about -"

"I don't have time for all your shit," Tyler snapped and Jade pursed her lips. "You see him tonight and that's that. You better figure out the rest until then or deal with what comes your way."

Jade glared at Tyler for a moment before suddenly it clicked.

"I know just what to do," she perked up and Tyler frowned. "We have to go see someone."

"Not again -" Tyler said in frustration but Jade jumped up and rushed towards the door, pulling it open before Tyler could retort.

Fuming, he followed. He failed to see how she could be stubborn considering the given circumstances.

"Hey!" Jade turned to Tyler before knocking on the door. "I know it might be hard for you, but try to keep your mouth shut for both our sakes."

Before Tyler could respond, she rang the bell. There was a moment's wait and then the door swung open.

"Jade?" Pixie stood there, apparently having seen her through the peek hole.

"How're you doing?" Jade slipped past her and into the apartment. "Mind if I crash for a bit?"

Pixie's eyes widened when she saw Tyler, who followed Jade with an angry scowl on his face. Pixie glanced back at Jade who sighed deeply as she sat down on the couch.

"I need a favor, Pix," she said, and Pixie closed the door and sat down beside her, glancing doubtfully at Tyler who was standing with his arms folded in the middle of the living room.

"Yeah?" she asked.

Jade looked at Tyler and spoke.

"This is Patricia, my best friend. But you can call her Pixie. She's probably the best computer expert I know. I think she's exactly what we need."

Tyler didn't respond. He glared pointedly at Jade, his lips pursed, and Jade was happy that he was listening to her about keeping his mouth shut.

"First things first," Jade turned back to Pixie. "Brandon must have called you?"

"Yeah he told me you said you'll be staying with your mom for a while," Pixie told Jade, looking increasingly uncomfortable because of Tyler's unwanted presence inside her house.

"I lied," Jade confessed indifferently and Pixie frowned. "But I won't lie to you. Because I know you won't tell anyone."

"Of course, I won't," Pixie looked aghast. "What's going on?"

"I'll explain everything, but right now, I need your help," Jade said, and Pixie looked close to panic. "I have to go see this bio-scientist tonight. And I need to convince him that I know about his work. I've gone through the basics, and I think I can handle most of it. But I don't want to mess up. And that's where you come in."
