Chapter 30

Falling out of bed, the unknown man smirked fiendishly at Aylin. Backing away as fast as she could, the back of her knees hit the arm chair. "W-who are you?!" she belted, pointing a finger shakily.

The evil smirk plastered across his face made Aylin feel very ill at ease. Rolling off the bed, he stood in full form. "I think you know." Pausing for a moment, she searched her memories. A flash of the photo from the file hit her. Widening her eyes in shock, Aylin started panicking. "Hmm, I see you've recalled."

"Za-Zagan! You, you can't be here. It's impossible!" Aylin stuttered.

His lithe figure crept towards her. Remembering the photo, nothing really changed about him. The length of his hair was slightly longer, but that's all. His eyes were a deep blue, with a slight green hue. With strong cheek bones, his jaw was chiseled. "Do you know why I'm here, my sweet?"

The words rolling off his tongue had an evil air to them, enough to want to make Aylin throw up. Shaking in fear, she was unsure if she should answer. "N-no, why are you here?"

Unknowingly, Aylin backed herself into a corner. Zagan licked his lower lip seductively as though the being before him was a meal. Caging her in, his arms were extended allowing to take the full sight of the woman in . "Oh, sweetheart, I don't think you know how long I've been looking for you." Dipping his head down, he took a deep, dramatic inhale of Aylin's scent. Crinkling his nose, he was repulsed for a moment. "You reek of that wolf, the lesser being that he is."

Pure rage erupted from inside Aylin. How dare anyone speak of her mate in such a fashion? Ezekiel was the only man she could ever love, and would ever love. Whatever this Zagan wanted, there was no way that she was going to give it to him. He oozed malice, and reeked of death. Glaring coldly at him, she pointed her index finger. "Do not ever speak ill of my mate, again. I don't know who you think you are, but you are nothing compared to him. Not in the slightest. And I am not yours, and I never  will be." Aylin spat in his face.

Though slightly taken aback by her words, Zagan still maintained his composure. Cackling, he shook his head. "But, you don't know the whole story. I'm the only one who can tell you." Trailing a finger down her cheek, Zagan purred. "Time to wake up now, sweetheart. See you soon."

"Aylin!" Waking with a start, Ezekiel was shaking his mate violently. He spent over ten minutes trying to wake her to no avail. Panic set in for him when he realized that her pulse was slowing rapidly, and her breaths became shallow. "Oh my goddess, sweetheart, are you alright?"

Pure hysteria was written all over Ezekiel's face. Shaking off the strange nightmare, she threw herself at her mate, releasing all the fear she felt in Zagan's presence. "Oh, Zeke! It was awful!" she sobbed into him.

Stroking her hair gently, he rocked them back and forth slightly. "Sshh, I'm here now." Peppering little kisses over her forehead, his arms held onto her tightly. "Tell me what happened."

Covering her face with her hands, there was almost a shame in even speaking the name of the demon in question. "It-it was, it was Zagan," she uttered loudly.

Tensing instantly, he tried to remain as calm as possible for his mates sake. She was sobbing in his arms, completely terrified by the events of her dream. "Deep breaths, love. Tell me, what did he say?"

Taking a deep breath, and wiping her eyes, Aylin considered altering the truth, but knew it was wrong. "He said there was more to the story, and that only he would be able to tell me. Claimed that I was his....called you a lesser being...."

Ezekiel couldn't believe his ears, the gall of a demon saying such a thing. The composure he was trying to maintain was slipping, the more that Aylin spoke of the incident. Though his mate was strong hearted, she was still marred by her past. Climbing off the bed, Ezekiel started to get dressed. If Zagan could get to Aylin through her dreams, then better they continued down the road home.

"Zeke, are we leaving?"

"Yes, it's not safe." His response was curt, and to the point.

The tone cut through Aylin like glass. Is he blaming her for the dream? It wasn't as though she chose to dream about him? Clearly, there was some magical way that Zagan was able to penetrate into her mind. Neither of them truly knew, to any extent, what his abilities were. It was simply entirely too dangerous for Ezekiel to risk his mate's life.

Silently, Aylin got dressed, not even bothering to look at Ezekiel. His tone made a shiver crawl down her spine. Fully dressed, she grabbed her bag, leaving the king behind in the room. There was no plausible explanation for why he was being cold towards her, but there was no call for it, regardless.

Waiting by the car, he came out, looking somewhat drawn, but his brow furrowed. Once in sight, she threw her bag in the trunk, and crawled in the back seat. He may have wanted to go back to the castle, but she was still tired. In that moment, she didn't particularly want to speak to him.

Getting into the driver's seat, he gazed into the rear view mirror, softening his features. "Come sit up here." His tone was almost begging, but he knew in the back of his mind that she was angry. When she didn't answer, he half-turned, "What's wrong?" Still nothing. Instead, she made a pillow with her jacket, and laid down facing away from him. "Damn it," he whispered, yet loud enough for her to hear.

Closing her eyes, Aylin could still hear the king grumbling to himself. She made no effort to understand what he was saying, whatever it was couldn't be that important. Rolling over, she observed that he was white knuckling the steering wheel, shaking his head. Internally, she was somewhat happy that he knew what he done, and was beating himself up for it.

'Talk to him!' Kaia yelped in her head.

'He should apologize,' Aylin argued.

'Well, he can't if he doesn't know what he-'

'Zeke knows what he did!'

'At least talk to him. Mate is sad you won't talk to him. His wolf is restless.'

'Hmph, fine.' Aylin finally conceded to her wolf.

"Zeke," she whispered, almost inaudibly.

Peering in the rear view mirror, surprise hit his eyes. "You're awake?"

Sighing, he knew exactly what he had to do, yet it was difficult for him. Very rarely, if ever, in his past did he have to apologize for anything. Things changed a lot more rapidly then he anticipated when he met Aylin. "Look, I'm uh...I'm sorry for the way I spoke to you. I'm not, nor will I ever blame you for the dream you had. Zagan is a bastard." Growling lowly, he was reminded of the pure terror in her face when she woke. "I promise you, Zagan will die by my hand. He won't ever get his hands on you."
