CHAPTER ONE ( the mortal cup, part i )
Jax Harper was never one to get excited easily-mainly because not many good things has happened his life.
But when he received news that a certain redhead is accepted into her dream school, he couldn't help the surge of excitement that coursed through him. He knew how much getting into this school means to her and he too felt proud to see that his best friend, someone whom he considered as close as his little sister, studying in the Brooklyn Academy of Arts.
He had been waiting anxiously for her arrival and when Clary Fray finally arrived back to their apartment, Jaz wasted no time in running towards the girl and lifting her up. The younger girl giggled, holding onto his broad shoulders for support as he twirled her around in the air.
Jax opened his mouth to congratulate her but was cut off as Jocelyn Fray walked into the room. "You did it!" the older woman exclaimed happily, quickly dropping the laundry basket she previously had in her arms and swiftly ran over to the pair. She hit Jax's arm gently, a gesture to put Clary down and when he did, she immediately pulled her daughter in for a tight hug.
"You two also follow Simon?" Clary asked, her tone laced with amusement as her mother squeezed the life out of her.
"It's not like I have a choice," Jax rolled his eyes, remembering the time when their sci-fi loving nerd begged him to give him a follow. Jax had refused, saying that he doesn't want to-when in reality, he doesn't even have a twitter account.
But after a while it got quite annoying and so Jax opted to tell him the truth, hoping that Simin would finally stop bugging him. Much to Jax's annoyance, Simon ended up stealing his phone behind his back and created a twitter account for Jax before proceeding to follow himself. Jax never understood why the amount o followers mattered so much to Simon but at least he could still threatened to unfollow him whenever he got the chance, just for the sake of his own amusement.
Jocelyn laughed, finally pulling away from the embrace. "He only has 92 followers, he needs the retweet!" she said making Jax cringe internally.
He leaned down to mutter quietly in Clary's ear, "Piece of advise, don't let your mother follow you on social media. Remember when she saw my post on Instagram then grounded me for two weeks?"
But Jocelyn overheard what he said-since Jax wasn't exactly a quiet person. The brunette placed her hands on her hips and gave him a disapproving look, "You were drinking alcohol!"
"Jocelyn, I'm twenty and I work at a bar," he deadpanned.
Clary grinned at their silly argument, loving how her mother and Jax got along so well. She opened her satchel bag and took out the acceptance letter, showing it to her mother. Seeing as she was distracted, Jax took the chance to snatch the gift bag-which he assumed she had received from Dot, from her hands and peeked inside. But he hadn't even gotten the chance to see anything as Clary suddenly jumped on him, clinging onto his back. Jax didn't even stumble at the sudden weight on his back or when Clary jumped on him and tried to tak back the bag.
