I was surprised when we pulled up the the building that was supposedly the local hospital, I mean I had only ever seen them on TV when Natalie used to watch her soap dramas but I thought they'd be based a little bit on what they look like in real life. The building in front of me just looked like any other building in the area, only distinguishable by the sign at the top of the door stating it was crescent moon hospital. What a weird name for a hospital.
"You ready to go little mate" Jax asked as he held the car door open for me with his arms out stretched, ready to carry me into the waiting room.
I nodded my head and let out a little squeal as he lifted me into the air before settling me into his arms bridal style.
He smiled down at my reaction before heading over to the entrance of the hospital."Now the doctor may have to ask you some questions which you will have to answer with your voice okay? Just be as honest as you can and she will get the examination over with as quick as possible okay?"
I looked up him, worry I can imagine as clear as day on my face but as I look up and saw Jax's encouraging expression I sighed before slowly nodding my head. If I wanted to get better I guess this is the best way to do it.
Jax smiled down at me before nodding his head back and carried on into the hospital.
When he walked in the first thing I noticed was the smell, the smell of cleaning products that was so strong it almost burned my nose. I sneezed from the intensity of it and rubbed my nose, God how was Jax dealing with such a strong smell?
"Don't worry, you get used to it" he muttered, as if he could read my thoughts and I smiled up at him.
As I looked around and took in more of my surroundings I started to notice that more and more people were starting to stare at us, well more accurately me, and I couldn't figure out why. This was a place for sick and hurt people right? So why was everyone staring at me like they couldn't believe that I was here. I frowned slightly and poked Jax in the chest to get his attention.
"Why are they staring?" I whispered, trusting him that I was safe here in his arms.
He grinned down at me and brought me closer to his chest. 'The sound of your voice is like music to my ears little mate' he muttered and kissed the top of my head, this obviously caused a blush to creep along my cheeks just like earlier and I hid slightly in his chest in embarrassment.
Jax just chuckled, "they're staring because they're not used to seeing me with anyone like this" he explained.
I stared at him in confusion, seeing him like what?
He must've seen my confusion because he sighed and sat down in one of the waiting room seats with me in his lap. "Most people in my pack don't usually see me this devoted to a particular person". Was that supposed to clear things up for me because if anything it just made me more confused. He sighed and ran his hand through his hair "I haven't told people yet that your my mate, I want you to be more healed before you meet the pack, so people are curious why I'm being so protective of you".
I frowned, still not knowing what the hell he was on about. What does he mean when he says words like pack and mate? I thought when he called me little mate it was just some weird nickname he had given me but is it an actual thing?
"Annabelle, were ready for you" a lady called my name from the other side of the small waiting room. How did she know my name? I had only told Jax... unless she knew of me through the Leftens and worked for them? Oh god what if she tells them that I'm here and they come and get me, I can't go back to that place again, not now that I know what it's like to have escaped and not constantly live in fear. My heart rate suddenly sky rocketed and sweat covered my skin.
"Hey...hey little mate it's okay, I'm not going to let anyone hurt you okay? Not a single person in this building would dare do anything to harm you" he stated and held my cheek in one of his hands as he crouched in front of me, when did he move?
"Do you trust me?" He whispered, his face close enough to mine that I can feel his breath ever so slightly against my cheeks.
That was the big question I kept asking myself... did I trust him? Do I trust this stranger whom I've never met before to not lay a hand on me, not only that but to protect me from people who do want to? I looked into Jax's eyes, his soft chocolate brown eyes and I knew my answer strait away. Yes. I don't know why I trust him not to hurt me, but I do.
I took a breath and offered his a small little smile before every so slightly nodding my head.
Jax let out a breath I hadn't noticed he was holding and gave me a mega watt smile which formed a cute dimple to appear on one of his cheeks. My heart stuttered a but at the sight and I suddenly became very warm, when did it get so hot in here?
"Come on angel, the doctor is waiting for us" Jax stated as he stood up with me safely tucked in his arms.
I snuggled into his hold, loving the warmth that was coming off of him, he was just so comfortable.
I was so distracted by the feel of Jax's arms around me that I didn't notice that we were already in some form of office with a desk and two chairs in one corner, a bed pushed up to one side of the room and a filling cabinet by the now closed door. An indoor fur tree sat by the open window, making the place feel a little more relaxed but I just couldn't help but tense as my eyes landed on a woman in her mid 50's standing in the middle of the room with her hands clasped behind her back.
"Annabelle I'm Doctor Tessler, nice to meet you".
Although she appeared nice when she held her hand out, presumably for me to shake, I shrunk back into Jax's arms slightly and just stared at her.
"Annabelle doesn't speak much" Jax thankfully saved me so from anymore awkwardness and I looked up at him to see his eyes slightly unfocused and looking strait ahead at something. I frowned and looked over at the doctor to notice that she had the same far off look before they both snapped back to reality and went to sit in their respective chairs around the doctors deck. I frowned but otherwise didn't comment on the weird actions on the two, best to never ask questions.
"Now Annabelle, I gave you a once over when the took you back to his house but I just wanting to do a more thorough check once you were awake so that you could answer some questions for me. Is that okay?"
She had a kind smile on her face the whole time she was speaking, making me feel slightly more relaxed but when she asked me if I was okay with her doing more tests on me I looked at her in confusion. No one had ever asked me if I was okay with someone doing something to me, they had just done it without concern for me.
I looked up at Jax for help and when he smiled his dazzling smile, nodding his head, I turned back to the doctor and copied his actions.
"Perfect" doctor Tessler stated with a smile as she stood up and walked over to the bed in the room. "Alpha if you could just place her down here I'll begin her physical examination".
I know it was a bit of a slow one but I'm slowly building up to a few things!!
