Butler Ash dropped us off at some farm, telling us to stay safe and enjoy ourselves, with a few sexual comments thrown in there too, of course.
"What are we doing at a farm?" I ask Luke. He doesn't answer, just takes my hand and leads me to the front door of the small house. He knocks three times, and a pot bellied man in his 50's with no hair on his head answers the door, a beer in hand and suspenders and a flannelette covering his large body.
"Hey Steven" Luke smiles, shaking the mans hand.
"Ah Luke, I'll go grab the keys" Steven smiles, his eyes crinkling slightly, before disappearing back into the house.
"Luke, what's going on?" I ask him but he still ignores me, staring straight ahead so I decide to let it go. I guess I will find out soon enough. Steven comes back and puts a set of keys in Luke's hand.
"It's all yours. You two have fun, enjoy yourselves. Keep her safe, Luke"
"Of course" The blonde grins, shaking Stevens hand and thanking him before we walk away from the house and around the back. The farm is huge, with a huge plot of land out the back that stretches on over a hill. I was confused as hell, but I trusted Luke, as weird as it felt to do so. This boy really has changed me for the better.
We reach a car and Luke opens the passenger door of the old rusty burgundy Mazda ute, telling me to jump in. I comply and sit down in the leather passenger seat that is slightly ripped in some places. The car smells like hay and cigarettes, but I don't really mind it that much. Luke jumps into the drivers seat and puts the keys that Steven gave him into the ignition. We drive off through the paddock together, Luke staying silent with a ghost of an excited smile sitting on his lips.
"We're here" He finally says, the first words he's spoken to me since we got into their van. I don't really know what he means by 'here', but if it's what I think it means, I'm a tad confused. Apparently, 'here' means the middle of a paddock, with not a single living thing in sight. The sun is just about to set, as it makes it's slow descent towards the horizon, and the large grass clearing we are parked in looks beautiful.
"What exactly is 'here'?" I ask Luke, looking over at him.
"Our first date" He smiles, jumping out of the car and leaving me still utterly confused. But I follow him out anyway. I walk around to the bed of the ute, which is covered by a black sheet that is tied down to the sides with rope.
"Could you please undo those knots for me?" Luke asks kindly and I nod, my eyebrows furrowed as I work away at the ropes. The both of us finally manage to free the sheet of all it's knots, and looks at me with a glimmer in his eyes, the sun getting closer and closer to the horizon behind him.
"Ready?" He asks, smirking at me.
"Uh, for what, exactly?" I ask, looking at him dubiously.
"You'll see" He says, walking around to the end of the ute and grabbing the sheet in his hands, ripping it off to reveal a bed, in the bed.
"Tonight's accommodation" He grins, rolling up the sheet messily and chucking it into the back seat of the ute. "Jump in bed, we'll watch the sunset" He tells me and I hop into the back of the ute, surprised at how comfy it actually is. He must have put a fair few mattresses down. I get under the thick duvet, cuddling into it, and then I hear music playing from the front of the car. It gets louder as Luke turns it up and seconds later he is jumping in next to me. "So, what do you think so far?" He asks, nestling under the covers with me.
"I think that this is possibly the best way for me to spend the night" I smile, resting my head on his shoulder.
"Steven let me borrow his paddock, and his ute, for the night. Nice bloke"
"How do you even know him?" I ask and Luke laughs to himself.
"Him and my dad are good friends. They met in a public toilet once. Steven accidentally peed on my dads shoe, they've been mates ever since" He chuckles and I laugh at his story.
"How did you meet the other boys?" I ask, looking up at him.
"I went to school with Cal and Mike. Ashton sort of hung around with people we knew, we didn't really know who he was, but Mike met him properly at a party and, well, here we are" He smiles and my heart melts at the fond look on his face when he speaks about his friends. "What about you and Chloe?"
"Oh, we went to primary school together, but then she moved away, and well, now here I am, after a few coincidental run-ins, I'm living with her and we are best friends once again" I say, with the same smile on my face that Luke wore seconds ago.
"Look" He whispers, pointing to the horizon and the sight is breathtaking.
The sun had set over the horizon, falling behind the trees that surrounded the paddock we were parked in. The various colours, from pink to blue and some red and orange change the colour of the clouds and the sky, making an interesting and beautiful palette of colours that littered the sky.
"It's so beautiful" I mumbled, not being able to take my eyes away as I nuzzled further into Luke.
"I know" He sighed in content. "Nothing like a beautiful sunset with a beautiful girl at your side" He chuckles, sending a vibration through my head that made me giggle.
"You're a sap"
"You love it"
"Sometimes" I laugh, rubbing small circles on his chest with my fingers as music played in the background, mixing with the beating of his heart and the sound of the birds, making for a perfect soundtrack for watching the sun disappear, leaving a swirl of brilliant colours in its wake.
"How have you been?" Luke asks me.
"Good" I reply.
"That's good, now cut the bullshit and tell me how you've really been" He says, his tone serious and shocking me slightly.
"I'm serious. Everything has been great lately. I haven't had a cigarette in ages, and I think you are a main factor in the reason for that. I mean, my arms and my legs still hurt a bit when I do certain things, and it's a horrible and painful reminder every time I take off my clothes, but other than that, things are going well. You make things alright"
"You know I care about you, right?" He asks and I smile a little.
The sun had set a long time ago, and all the stars and the moon were shining as brightly as ever. We had played a game of Uno, a game of snap, and he had chased me around the paddock after I made some comments about his hair. I was having a really good time, but I was hungry, and I felt like the planets had aligned when Steven showed up on his quad with a few pizzas on the back. So, we sunk our teeth into it, settling my grumbling stomach.
"I haven't had this much pizza in such a short amount of time in my life"
"You need to get out more" He smirks, taking a massive bite out of his ham & pineapple pizza. I wasn't complaining about it though. I mean, why would you?
We finished our pizza in silence, the both of us obviously too hungry to talk, and Luke put the boxes in a big black garbage bag that was hanging off of the side of the ute.
"Are you cold?" He asks me.
"A little" I admit, wiping my greasy hands on my pants.
"Come here" He smiles, opening his arms and getting under the covers, making himself look very inviting. I slowly move over to him, laying down in his arms and under the duvet, instantly being surrounded by the warmth emitting from the thick blanket and Luke's body.
"You're always so warm" I mumble into his chest.
"You're always cold" He laughs, kissing my nose that was undoubtedly red.
"I know" I sigh, burying my face in his chest. It felt so good to be held by someone, their warmth taking over my body, along with the butterflies that whirled throughout me from their touch. Luke felt amazing. "Hey Luke?"
"You know you make me happy, right?" I ask, almost mimicking what he had said earlier.
"You make me happy, too" He smiles, kissing my forehead.
"This song is amazing" I mutter as the start of Therapy fills the paddock, and I feel goosebumps raise on my skin.
"God, you have a good taste in music" Luke chuckles.
"I know" I giggle. "Luke? Can you sing to me?" I ask him.
"Uh, sure" He laughs nervously, but joins in with the song when the chorus comes, singing softly to me. His voice sends chills up my spine and I hug him closer, feeling so very infatuated with the blue eyed boy that I never expected to fall for. The song finished, and Luke stopped singing, but I still held him tightly, not letting go.
"You're so talented" I say, my voice slightly muffled by his chest.
"You have no idea how much that means to me, coming from you" He tells me and I blush at his cuteness.
If you had've told me a month ago that I would be blushing and giggling in the middle of a paddock with Luke, I probably would've laughed and whacked you over the head with a chair leg, but I guess people change. They change a lot.
That was one of the things I was most scared about. I didn't want Luke to change. I didn't want to change. I wanted us to stay the same, I wanted everything to stay like this, how it was. Despite all the shit that had gone on in the last week or two, I was happy with my life. Despite the scars on my skin and the holes in my heart, I was content. For some reason, I didn't mind that Luke had taken a sledge hammer to the walls I had worked so hard on building. For some reason, I didn't care that I trusted him so much all ready. For some reason, I wasn't scared anymore. And I owed it all to Luke. He had truly changed me into someone I always wished I could be, in such a short space of time, and I felt the need to thank him constantly.
"What are you thinking about?" He whispered to me.
"You" I told him.
"Does it have anything to do with me being naked?" He asks, winking at me.
"In your dreams" I laugh, rolling my eyes.
"No, in your dreams" He chuckles and I slap his shoulder. "Oh, you did not just do that" He whispers, pretending to be shocked as he lurched forward, attacking my body with his fingers, tickling me until I couldn't breathe.
"Stop! Stop!" I laugh, trying to wriggle out of his grip.
"Not until you apologise"
"I'm sorry! Please stop" I plead, still giggling. His fingers stop and something hits me. A memory of my fathers hands on my body as I begged him to stop rushed into my head, punching me in the stomach like a metal fist. I whimpered and grabbed onto Luke's shirt in my fist, trying to fight off the flashbacks but it was no use.
"Hey, hey, what's wrong? Katie, whats up?" Luke asks and his voice is enough to bring me back to reality.
"He wouldn't stop touching me" I whimper into his chest, still clutching his shirt tightly.
"It's fine. You're with me, Kate, it's okay, you're safe. I won't let anyone hurt you. Not now, not ever"
Hello my beautiful readers! I'm so very sorry that I didn't update over the weekend, I went away on a surfing trip for the long weekend so I didn't have any writing time!
My schedule was pretty packed. It was literally just: Get up. Surf. Have dinner. Go to bed.
And that's about it, with a lot of nonsensical shit talking and a fair few foul smells in there too. (I went with my 5 year old of a dad, my 17 y/o brother and our 20 y/o family friend. All of them have the weirdest sense of humour and there is never a normal moment with them.
An example of something that was said during the trip: "If you wanna learn how to play softball, touch this. If it's hardball you like, Jimmy's your guy" (Jimmy is a made up person) and that's basically what I had to live with for 3 days! (that is probably the most normal thing I heard all weekend) so yeah...)
The surf was good though. I got a barrel, or tube, whatever you prefer to call it, and I almost cried I was so happy. It was my first one I've ever gotten :--D
Anywhore, enough about my weekend, how was yours?
Hope this chapter is worthy!
I have 200 votes and 3.7k reads, and I can't thank you guys enough. I love you all so much wow this is amazing.
