When folks ask me about my story, I usually tell them to fuck off really. My story wasn't a story I liked to talk about. It's filled with pain, abuse, heartbreak, suffering, abandonment, and a lust for hatred. But then again, my life was also full of friendship, respect, love, sex, children, money, loyalty,......Royalty.

Royalty...

Not like no queen of England type shit but...we were close. I guess my life is something like a fairy tale after all. Every princess needed a prince charming to save them...

I was born on January 23rd on a stormy rainy day, my mama told me. She said I came out bitchy as all hell and wouldn't stop crying after they beat me. Little did I know I would be the victim of more beatings later on in my life.

I never knew my father when I was a kid, he didn't show up to the hospital that day, nor once held me in his arms

I never knew my father when I was a kid, he didn't show up to the hospital that day, nor once held me in his arms. It was just me and my mother for awhile until we moved in with my grandma in Peralta Villa in West. We lived in the projects or as some people say "Affordable housing" for the poor ones. It was only a two bedroom apartment so my mom and I had to share a room. My mom and her nigga at the time couldn't take each other anymore...and the fact that my mom cheated on him when she made me. He kicked us out and thus we had to move forward.

Wiping my eyes of crust, I used the railing above me to guide myself down the steps to enter into the living room. There my grandmother was, sitting in her favorite chair and watching her stories. I walked up to her and pulled down my tight faded green pajamas in the process.

"Grandma, I'm hungry..." I complained, hanging my head to the side.

She turned her head to look down at me. "Did you tell your mother up there, Rowan?"

"Yes and– and she told me to ask you. She's scratching again.." I said.

"Scratching? ...Oh okay, go ahead in the kitchen while I go check on her, okay" she said, attempting to stand up after taking her blanket off.
