Chapter thirty-nine

"You are safe in my heart, and my heart will go on and on."

That lyrics replayed in Leo's head as he sat outside Kate's room at the hospital, waiting for the nurse to let him in. He was sure he had never felt so helpless and scared in his lifetime. His heart was breaking at the mere idea of losing Kate or their baby. The feeling of Kate falling unconscious in his arms was already horrible beyond belief.

"Mr. DiCaprio, you may come in. Miss Winslet's awake, and she's asking for you." The nurse informed, getting out of the room with the doctor.

Leo hoped off his seat, entering the room. There she was. Kate, semi-sitting at the bed, leaning on some pillows and smiling at him.

"Hey, Katie." He said, walking towards her. "Are you okay? Does anything hurt?"

"I'm fine, Leo. Don't worry. I'm fine, and so is our baby."

He left out a sigh of relief he didn't know he was holding. "Oh, thanks God. You scared me, Kit Kat."  Leo pulled her in for a hug, kissing her lips deeply.

"I'm sorry." She mumbled, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Don't be sorry, okay? You never have to be sorry. It's not your fault." He mumbled, pecking her face every few seconds. 

"Mum!" She turned around to face her children, all running towards her. She took them all in her arms, motioning Leo to join in the hug.

"How do you know I'm here?" Kate asked Mia.

"Uncle Leo texted me. I asked for permission to leave early from school and called a cab." Mia explained. "Are you okay, mum?"

"I am, sweetheart. Thank you."

"I made you a drawing, mummy!" Bear said, handing her a paper. "It's us, you see? There's Mims, and Joe, and me, and there are you and Uncle Leo."

"Thank you, Bear. It's beautiful." She complimented and glanced at Leo.

One glance and she knew they were thinking the same thing. Let's tell them.

"Bear?"

"Yes?"

"You'll have to add someone to your drawing." Leo said.

"Are we getting a dog?!" Joe perked up visibly.

Kate and Leo chuckled in unison. "No, Joe."

They all looked expectant at the grown-ups. "Then what?"

"I'm pregnant." Kate said. "Leo and I are having a baby."

Mia beamed, hugging both her mum and Uncle. "That's fantastic, mum! Congrats!"

Joe stayed quiet, but he was smiling. Bear looked at his Uncle, crawling towards him on the bed. "A baby?"

"Yes, Bear! You'll be a big brother! Isn't that cool!"

"Where's the baby, Uncle Leo?"

"At mum's tummy." Leo informed, flashing Kate a smile.

Bear giggled, placing his tiny hand at top of Kate's stomach. "Did you swallow the baby, mummy?"

Kate laughed, kissing his forehead. "No, Bear, I didn't swallow the baby."

"Is it a boy?" Joe asked.

"We don't know yet, sweetie." Kate answered.

"Please, mum! Tell me it's a girl! I want a sister! The house is too full of boys!" Mia intervened. "Please!"

"Don't tell me, tell Uncle Leo. That's his department."

"Dad, please!" Mia proceeded with her begging.

"I can't choose, Mims." Leo chuckled. "We can't know yet, we will find out in a few more months."

They all cuddled together at the small hospital bed.

"I love you all." Leo mumbled.

"We love you too, Uncle Leo." Bear said. "A whole lot."

"I love you too, Leo." Kate said, taking his hands and intertwining her fingers with his. "A lot."
