"I said something weird to you, didn't I?" I asked when I gave up remembering it on my own.
Tyler's smile grew wider as he relayed the memory to me. "It was something along the lines of 'aside from being sexy, what do you do for a living?'"
I slapped my hand to my forehead in embarrassment. That had to have been the cheesiest and dumbest pick up line I could have ever used, and to a bartender, too. I already knew what he did for a living.
"You also told me that you'd make an honest woman out of me someday. That was my favorite part." Tyler teased.
I stared at Tyler in horror. "Shit."
"I thought it was cute." Tyler said as he wrapped me up in his arms. He pulled my back against his chest as I covered my face in shame, shaking my head and cheeks red from embarrassment.
I stood like that for only another moment before I realized something else about this story. Pulling my head away from his chest, I looked at him with narrowed eyes.
"Hold on. Have you liked me since the very beginning?"
Tyler shrugged, keeping his arms wrapped around me.
"You didn't reject me cause you weren't interested. You rejected me cause you were too interested." I blurted, happy to have finally figured this out.
"You got it."
He made me the happiest girl in the world with this one simple gesture, and I found myself standing up on my tiptoes to press my lips against his. This was him and I finally turning into an 'us', the promise of loyalty sealed with a kiss that left me breathless.
The next day, we left in the early afternoon to drive to New York City. By then, tensions were high as we couldn't ignore what was coming. Tyler drove with his hand on mine for most of it, as if to remind me that this time, he wouldn't let go.
When we pulled up to the hotel, I noticed that it was the same one he stayed in last time. It was pretty incredible that we made it back here despite everything that had happened, almost like it had come around full circle. Seeing it put me in a better mood, and suddenly I wanted to improve his as well.
"Bonnie and Clyde strike again." I said with a smile, grabbing tightly onto Tyler's hand as we made our way to the front entrance.
"Hopefully for the last time."
"We'll see about that." I teased.
Once we got inside, Tyler led the way to reception and gave the woman his fake name. After he handed over his ID, I put my hands on the counter and slightly leaned over it.
"Can we get one of those rooms with a view of the city? Oh, and have someone deliver a bottle of champagne if you could." I asked the receptionist with a wide smile. "It's our anniversary today."
Her lips twitched up slightly as she glanced over her computer to meet my eyes. "Oh that's wonderful. How many years?"
"Just one. It feels like only yesterday that I walked down the aisle." My voice was dreamy as I pretended to reminisce. I felt Tyler tense up slightly beside me at the act I was pulling. Wanting him to join in, I turned my sparkling eyes to his always scruffy face. "Right, honey?"
"Of course, babe."
I winked at him before turning to the woman again. She played around on her computer for couple more minutes before smiling up at me. "I got you a room up on the twentieth floor with the best view I could get on short notice." She said as she handed us our keys. "Congratulations on your anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery. The champagne is on us."
"Thank you so much!" I exclaimed. Linking my arm with Tyler's, I walked to the elevator with a spring in my step. Life as a criminal wasn't so bad sometimes.
"Anniversary, huh?" He asked with one eyebrow raised. I stood with him as the elevator doors closed to begin the long journey to the twentieth floor.
I just shrugged. "As long as we have fake names we might as well have a cover story."
Tyler laughed before quickly pulling me against him. With his arm wrapped around my waist, he looked down at me with a smile. "Come here, Mrs. Montgomery." Then he kissed me right there in the elevator, the intensity of it increasing with every ding of a new floor.
When it finally stopped, I was pressed between Tyler's body and the hard surface of the wall. He slowly took a step back, sliding one hand out from my under my shirt and the other from my butt. He wore a cocky grin as I readjusted my outfit, both of us still breathing heavily from the kiss.
"Coming, dear?" He taunted as I was still trying to collect myself. It seemed that no matter how many times we were intimate, it wouldn't cease to turn my knees into jelly.
"Yes." I muttered as I stepped off of the elevator, following him into the hallway that led to our room. As soon as he closed the door behind us, I dropped my bag onto the floor and turned to him. He smiled as I jumped into his arms, his hands dropping to my ass as I wrapped my legs around his torso. I kissed him more fervently this time, letting the passion consume me as he led me to the bed.
Another cute happy chapter. Although necessary, I still don't really enjoy them lol. We'll be reaching the climax soon and there will be some more action, don't worry!
