DJARABI KITABS PUBLISHING was founded in May 2013. Djarabi means Love in Mandinga. We are a small press with over 600 books printed in 2017 and over 500 eBooks downloads in the same year.

DKP Publishing Submission Guidelines

We cannot wait to read your submission. However, please carefully read and follow the Djarabi Kitabs Publishing guidelines below.

Query Letter

Prior to sending a manuscript, email a query letter to acquisitioneditor@djarabikitabs.com with the following information:

·        Author’s Name

·        Agent’s Name (if applicable)

·        contact information (email and phone number)

·        title/subtitle

·        genre/category

·        word count

·        100-250-word synopsis of the novel (protagonist(s), conflict, what makes your story stand out).

·        Writing experience (fiction credits, nonfiction credits, self-published, or previous publishers)

·        Inform DKP if other publishers are considering your project.

Note:

Submit one query letter for one project. Do not submit multiple queries for multiple projects at one time.Due to the numerous queries we receive, we will not send receipt confirmations. Please do not send a follow-up email requesting confirmation that we received your query letter.We will not respond to incomplete query letters, so it is critical to make sure your project query contains all the above information.

Submissions

DKP publishes a wide range of traditional and innovative Adult Trade and children’s books. Query letters will be reviewed, and we will contact the author and ask for a full manuscript submission.

Any submission sent without a query letter and subsequent manuscript request will be considered unsolicited and DKP is not able to respond to them.

General Guidelines

·        We only accept digital submission via email to acquisitioneditor@djarabikitabs.com.

·        Please allow 8 to 12 weeks for editors to review a submission.

·        We review all solicited proposals and generally do not accept unsolicited manuscripts. Therefore, we are unable to respond to unsolicited proposals unless we are interested in the project.

·        All submissions must be in accordance with Chicago Manual Style unless otherwise indicated in the guidelines.

·        Do not submit more than one manuscript at a time.   

Adult Trade Submissions

·        Submit the first 3 chapters of acompleted manuscript formatted as follows:

Word doc. (no PDFs)double-spacedArial-12 fontleft justified with one space between sentences.

·        Include page numbers at the top right corner of every page along with the author’s full name and the manuscript title.

Children’s Submissions (Picture Books and Easy Readers)***

***Due to the high number of requests we received, we are not accepting children's books manuscripts at the moment. Thank you for understanding.***

·        Picture books up to 1000 words and easy readers up to 2500 words may be submitted in their totality.

·        Submit the completed manuscript formatted as follows:

Word doc. (no PDFs)double-spacedArial-12 fontleft justified with one space between sentences.

·        Do not break picture books into pages with a few sentences each. Separate page texts by writing “Page 1,” “Page 2,” etc. in bold between them.

Children’s Submissions (chapter books)

·        For chapter books between 10,000-12,000 words; middle grade novels between 20,000-25,000 words, and young adult novels between 35,000 to 45,000 words, submit the first 3 chapters of a completed manuscript formatted as follows:

Proposal Requirements

·        A brief description of the project and why you think DKP should publish it. Who are the potential readers? To what trends does the title relate? What are some similar titles, and how does your book differ from what is already published?

·        Author/illustrator biography, publishing credits, and credentials

·        sample illustrations or photographs (if applicable)

·        sample recipes (if cookbook) or projects (if craft book)
