Chapter seven

Ian and I were at the grocery store the next day picking up food for dinner.

“Can’t we just eat pancakes?” He groaned.

“At this point, I don’t care what we eat, we’ve been here for half an hour.”

“Pancakes it is!” He said happily heading down a different aisle. I shook my head at him. I looked at the other random odd food we had thrown in our cart and smiled. Twizzlers, ice cream, milk, stuff for salads, cereal, hot dogs, and stuff for sandwiches.

“We should probably get mac and cheese or something,” I added as an after thought.

“Next time someone else can go shopping, I always have to go buy food. Why is that?”

“Maybe it’s because you’re the only one that can cook?” I laughed.

“So if anything that should mean that someone else should be buying the food for me,” He grumbled.

I shrugged at him. I bumped into someone with my shoulder and nearly fell backwards. “Oh! I am so sorry,” I said apologizing.

The boy I had hit smiled at me, showing perfect teeth. “Don’t be. Someone as beautiful as you should never apologize.” I gave him a small smile before pushing some of my hair behind my ear. “It was my fault,” he assured me. He handed me a piece of paper with a number hastily scrawled on it letting me know that bumping into me probably wasn’t an accident. “If things with you and your boyfriend don’t work out, call me.” He winked at me and I could feel my mouth drop open.

“Oh he’s not my boyfriend,” I said awkwardly.

“Then definitely give me a call.” He walked away leaving me dumbly looking after him.

“Someone thinks you’re attractive,” Ian said sounding amused. I shot him a glare. “Don’t get me wrong, you are attractive,” he said misunderstanding my glare. “You’re just like a sister to me and-”

“Stop,” I said holding a hand up. “Just stop,” I laughed.

“It was supposed to be a statement but then it turned into a compliment and I thought it sounded creepy and it just wasn’t working out for me,” he sighed with the hint of a smile.

I shook my head at him again. We got the rest of the food we thought we needed which was mostly unhealthy, although I insisted on fruit, before we started heading home.

“Ian?” I asked as the wind made my long brown hair whip around me.

“Hm?” He said sounding as if I had just brought him out of some deep thought.

“Do you...and everyone else back at the house think I’m...weird?” He scrunched his eyebrows at me, looking confused.”Or that there’s something wrong with me?”
