I couldn't sleep well. I was laying in bed reading my crappy book club mystery novel, though really I was listening for Shawn to get back from the bachelor party. I'd heard him exit clear as day (thank you, thin walls) and knew I'd hear when he returned. The last time I looked at my phone it was after 2:30 AM. I must have fallen asleep soon after that.

There was a bridal party brunch the next morning. I woke up and showered. I blew out my hair and did my make-up. I wasn't sure how dressy the brunch was, so I went with black jeans, short boots, and a dressy maroon sweater. I threw on a scarf at the last minute. Later in the day we'd have the wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. I figured this outfit could carry me through the day.

As I was leaving to go down to the restaurant, I ran into Shawn in the hall. He was wearing what he'd had on the day before and looked thoroughly disheveled. He'd obviously not come back to his room last night.

"Fun night, I guess," I said, trying to come across as unaffected, when in reality my mind was going over all the sordid possibilities for him staying out all night.

"Maybe too fun," he said with a grimace.

"Kurt is still marrying Morgan, right?"

"Of course."

"And he didn't cheat on her?"

Shawn shook his head. "Kurt? No way. He was actually the most sober and responsible one in the group."

I wanted to know who the least sober and responsible one was, but I wasn't going to ask.

"I need to shower. See you later," Shawn said as he unlocked his door, obviously trying to end our conversation.

The brunch was lovely. Morgan gave each of her bridesmaids a gold bangle bracelet with a heart charm. We sat around drinking champagne and talking about wedding details.

Morgan leaned over to me and whispered, "I hear some of the guys got really drunk last night."

"I saw Shawn wandering back to his room as I was leaving to come here, so I think you are right."

Morgan quirked an eyebrow. "Kurt said Shawn was hardly drinking."

After the brunch I went up to my room since I had several hours before the rehearsal. I thought about napping, but I didn't want to mess up my hair and make-up. I curled up on my bed and pulled my phone out of my purse. As I was scrolling through Twitter, I got a text.

Shawn: Hey. You busy?

Me: Not really. What's up?

Shawn: Want to go grab a coffee and walk around town?

Me: Sure. Meet you in the hall.

I quickly put on some lipstick and went out into the hall where Shawn stood waiting. He looked exceptionally handsome in black jeans and a gray sweater.

The hotel had shuttles going to and from the historic downtown district, and we lucked out to catch one right as it was departing.

Sitting on the small shuttle bus, our thighs were touching. This gave me an electric feeling that I hoped he couldn't sense. Why did he still do this to me?

We found a cute coffee shop and got drinks and then strolled down the street, stopping in the occasional shop.

I was looking at hand-knit sweaters in one boutique when Shawn brought up the night before.

"Just so you know, I spent last night in Kurt's younger brother's room."

"Oh?" I said, trying to sound as if I didn't care.
