After Dillenwater was incapacitated, the group of kids sprinted back to their van, lest anyone else show up. They were all barely in their seats before Alexia sped out of the parking lot. They didn’t have time to wait for everyone to get settled in. There could be someone following them even now. Alexia had to find a way to throw them off their trail, and quick.
“Everyone, buckle up quick.” Alexia yelled out as she drove. “Cheater, watch behind us to see if we’re being followed. Anyone who turns with us could be following us.” She made a quick turn, hoping to lose anyone behind them. “Everyone else, be ready for a fight just in case.”
She made another turn off the road, having no idea where they actually were. It wouldn’t matter if they were caught though. “One black SUV followed us back there!” Cheater said loudly. Alexia groaned and pushed the van even faster.
A sign for a town quickly came up and she went that way, hoping that the town was big enough to lose their pursuers. She looked in the rear view mirror and noticed that if she kept a big enough distance between them she might be able to lose them around a few corners. That was their only hope. They soon arrived in the town. It wasn’t very big, but Alexia hoped that it was big enough.
She took every corner that she could, looking behind her to see where the SUV was. As she was coming up on a car was, the SUV was nowhere in sight. She ducked the can inside quickly, hoping that it would be enough to hide them.
“Cheater you watch behind us, I’ll watch ahead. We won’t make a move unless they start to pull in. Hopefully they’ll just pass right by us without even seeing us.” Alexia said quickly, never turning the van off. A couple of minutes passed uneventfully, and Alexia thought they’d finally gotten away.
“There they are!” Cheater said loudly, pointing back the way they had came. He was right, the black SUV was speeding toward them. Alexia could feel the color draining form her face, and she knew that she was gripping the steering wheel way too hard. The van was completely silent as they waited to see where the SUV went.
They watched as it drove closer and closer to their hiding place. Then, it went right past them. Alexia let out a breath she didn’t know she’d been holding. She loosened her death grip on the wheel as well. After taking a deep breath, she pulled out of the car was and went back onto the road. She went back the way they came, hoping to not run into another black SUV in the process.
A few minutes later, they were back on the interstate. They drove for hours, not even entirely sure where they were going. Finally they stopped at another motel, again getting two rooms. Each gender went to their own room, relaxing after their crazy day. They didn’t even have time to strategize that night, they all just fell asleep.
The next day went almost the safe as the one before, although without the run in with Dillenwater. At the end of the day, they were only a few hours from Washington D.C. Of course, they had no idea what to do once they got there. So when they stopped to rest that night, Alexia called everyone into the girl’s room to come up with a plan. They had to figure one out before they got there.
“What are we going to do once we get into the city?” Damon asked quickly.
“What can we do? It’s not like we can go tell the president or anything.” Cheater said with a frown.
“We’ll do the only thing we can do. We’ll go to the D.C. police and hope for the best. Hopefully they don’t have influence there yet.” Alexia said softly.
“And if they do?” Cheater asked quietly.
“I don’t know. I guess We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. That’s all we can do.” She said slowly.
