THE STEADY RHYTHM OF A FAINT BEEP APPEARS IN SUMMER'S EAR. Struggling to open her eyes, it takes her a moment before she does, and as she takes in her surroundings, an overwhelming wave of panic courses through her.

The last thing she remembered was the Demogorgon about to devour her, its razor-sharp teeth glistening in her face as she braced herself for the worst. But that was over now, and as she gazed around the room, her eyes settled on her mother, who had fallen asleep by her side.

"Mom..." Summer croaks, her throat dry and scratchy, but when the woman doesn't move, she intertwines their fingers.

The contact causes Helene to rise to her feet, and when she sees that her daughter is awake, her head falls to the side with relief. Sighing, with tears in her eyes, she strokes Summer's hair and kisses her forehead, "I thought we agreed that you would never scare me like that again?"

"I'm sorry," Summer croaks again.

"You lost a lot of blood. So much that you almost went into Hypovolemic Shock. If Steve hadn't kept pressure on the wound the way he did, it would've been a lot worse." Helene admits as she checks her daughter's vitals. "So, I guess I have him to thank for my baby still being here."

"Was that a compliment?" Summer fake gasps and then regrets doing so immediately as pain shoots down her neck.

Helene is quick to her side, helping fix her back up. "You need to take it easy. You've got a neck full of stitches and you're going to be feeling drowsy over the next few days."

"How long will I have to stay here?"

"I'm not sure, sweetie. But the fact that you're awake and seem okay, it may just be overnight." Helene squeezes her daughter's hand. "But, for the minute, there are some people that are waiting to see you. I'll send them in while I go get the other doctor."

Jonathan is the first one to walk in, hopeful eyes and a relieved smile on his face as he makes his way towards the end of the bed. Nancy follows not far behind, almost sheepishly, as if she were worried to say or do anything. Then lastly, is Steve, whose face drops the second he sees Summer.

She was paler than normal and the whole left side of her neck and shoulder had been patched up with bandages. It broke his heart to know he could've prevented this from happening if only he had stayed rather than running away like the fool he was.

He could've been there to stop the monster from digging its claw into her and ripping away at her skin. What hurt the most was that it was his gift to Summer that had caused the creature to do it in the first place. He was riddled with guilt and felt responsible for her injuries, so much so that he couldn't bear to even stand near her.

Jonathan was the first to approach her, immediately taking her hand in his own and gripping it as if he never wanted to let go. Summer was his closest companion, practically his other half and he had almost lost her. The thought alone had set him into a spirally mess of emotions.
