Beep! Beep! Beep! went my alarm clock. I rolled over and slapped the snooze button. I looked at the clock and it read six o' clock plus the weekday Monday. I sighed realizing it was a school day. I sat up and ran my fingers through my long charcoal black hair. For some reason I didn't feel very great, so I pushed the blankets off and went into my bathroom. I looked in the mirror and screamed in horror. I heard my mom's feet slapping the wood quickly towards my room. She shoved the door open and as I turned around she covered her face in shock. Tears streamed down her face as she looked at my hair that covered the bathroom tile floor. "Quickly get dressed so we can go to the doctor" she choked. I threw on some dingy jeans and a sweatshirt and jumped into the car with my traumatized mother. We reached Sarah bush and checked in. The wait wasn't too long, it was about three minutes until a pale skinny nurse called my name. As usual just like any other check-up I was weighed, got my blood pressure checked, and all the other things doctors and nurses do. She then escorted my mom and I to room 118 and asked us about our medical history which barely contained anything. Finally the skinny nurse left but was replaced by a rather big doctor named John.
"How are you lovely ladies today?" he asked. My mom glared at him with a
Look that said are you stupid? Who would be happy about being here in the hospital? After that we finally got down to business. He asked what the matter was and my mom told him everything. First, from my hair falling out all the way to how pale and weak I looked. He the asked about my mom and dad's medical/family history. She told him how her and her got divorced, but also how her side of the family had a lot of illness and how dad's side was perfect and healthy. After listening to all of this doctor John lead me to a cat-scan. They took multiple pictures of my innards. He lead me back to my room and told us to wait. My mom and I sat knee to knee while she held my hands in hers. She looked me in the eye, and by the look on her face she was hoping for the best and hoping that it was just a coincidence. The doctor finally returned and sat between me and my mom. He took a deep breath " Ms.Blake I'm very sorry but...." his voices dropped at least a whole level.
" What is it!" my mom yelled.
"Your daughter has cancer. To be specific it is leukemia. acute lymphocytic leukemia. This is when an accumulation of immature, useless cells are in the marrow and blood. It crowds out the good cells more rapidly. This can come from too much radiation. As for the hair-loss she has alopecia areata. This causes patchy hair-loss. This can be cured by taking corticosteroids, as for the leukemia chemotherapy is needed for one whole week then she needs to rest for 3weeks and come back once more for more treatment."
Thud! My mom dropped to the floor in tears, releasing every emotion she had kept locked inside her. She began screaming and eventually it got out of hand. She started ripping down the posters off the wall, and punched a mirror until her hands were painted red. she then picked up a chair and threw it at the wall. Her crying got louder until I couldn't take it anymore. I grabbed her by her shoulders and hugged her tightly. " Everything's going to be ok." I cooed while running my fingers through her thin black hair. "I promise it'll be ok. Things will get better." I tried to act braver than I was, but ended up crying anyways. My mom and I together on the floor still terrified by the news we just received.
My life was over.
