“A little life lesson. Don’t, under any circumstance, fall in love. It’ll only break your heart, Rowan.” Her mother said to her five year old daughter who at the time didn’t care about that kind of love.

 

“Okay mommy.” Rowan replied and then fell into a deep sleep.

 

                Four weeks after Rowan’s mother told her to never fall in love, her mother and father separated. Oh, how adults were difficult. Rowan stayed with her father in the end even though she wanted to be with her mother but her father disobeyed any contact with her mother.

 

“You’ll understand one day, Rowan.” Her father said tucking her into her bed one night.

 

“You always say that.” The now seven year old said rolling over, not facing her father.

 

“You’re just like your mother Rowan.” Her father said walking out of the bedroom turning off the light before he excited.
