Topic: My Jesus
June 19th, Tuesday, 2012
You've read what I have said about being courageous, being different, and helping others. I've told you about a lot of things but I haven't really talked about who Jesus really is. So, I'm going to use a song by Todd Agnew as an example;
"Pretty blue eyes and curly brown hair and a clear complexion
Is how you see Him as He dies for Your sins.
But the Word says He was battered and scarred
Or did you miss that part.
Sometimes I doubt we'd recognize Him."
I've noticed that a lot of Christians remember that Jesus died on the cross and suffered for our sins. But they forget the details. They forget that He was imprisoned, beaten, tortured, mocked, laughed at, disrespected, spit upon, whipped, lashed, hit, struck, shoved, burdened, and agonized to the point of death. He wasn't clear on the cross, He was bloodied and broken. Blood flowed from multiple wounds on His body as He hung on the cross. When the nails were driven in His hands and feet, the pain never went away! It wasn't like ripping off a bandaid or getting slapped. The pain didn't dull, it worsened. He thirsted, He hungered, He tired.
"Cause my Jesus would never be accepted in my church
The blood and dirt on His feet might stain the carpet.
But He reaches for the hurting and despises the proud.
I think He'd prefer Beale St. to the stained glass crowd
And I know that He can hear me if I cry out loud."
Luke 22:63 - The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating Him.
Isaiah 50:6 - I offered My back to those who beat Me, My cheeks to those who pulled out My beard; I did not hide My face from mocking and spitting.
Mark 14:65 - Then some began to spit at Him; they blindfolded Him, struck Him with their fists, and said, "Prophesy!" And the guards took Him and beat Him.
I could go on, but I won't take any more of your time. Just please remember all these things I have said to you, and I shall leave you with this final thought;
Which Jesus do you follow?
Which Jesus do you serve?
If Ephesians says to imitate Christ
Then why do you look so much like the world?
(song - My Jesus by Todd Agnew)
