Chapter Twenty Six

As soon as I got home from Demi's house I dialed Mia's number.

It rung, and rung, until finally I reached her voicemail.

"Mia, this is Ally. Listen, I really, really need to talk to you so please call me back as soon as you get this!"

I hung up, and sighed as I lay back on my bed.

There was a knock on the door, and then my Dad entered. We hadn't been as close since our last fight.

"Hey Ally," He said softly.

I sat up, seeing that he'd taken a seat on my bed.

"How are you? How's school, Mia, and Demi?"

"Uh, everything is good."

He placed a hand on my shoulder, and reminded me, "we're leaving in two weeks."

It honestly hit me like a ton of bricks. I'd completely forgotten how close the moving date was becoming.

"Right, right. Okay, uh thanks for reminding me."

"Um, another thing," He began. "Mom an-and I want Demi to come over for dinner before we go."

"You wouldn't freak out?" I asked, crossing my arms.

He gulped, "she obviously means a whole lot to you. I'd like to meet her."

"Alright," I added, "when?"

"Tomorrow?" He offered.

I agreed, and gave him a quick hug. As soon as he left I called Demi.

"Hey!"

"Hey Ally," She said calmly.

"I was wondering-"

"Hold on, wait, can I call you back?"

There was a thud, a swear, and a couple of laughs.

"Um, sure. You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm great. I'll call you later."

"Later?"

She hung up.

My phone rang at 1:04am.

"Hello?" I groaned.

"Hey babe," Demi's voice said, huskier than usual.

"Wow, thanks for finally calling me back."

"I was out with some of my friends, sorry," She sounded sincere.

"It's okay. Who were you out with?"

"Some of my old friends I used to work with. We just hung out around town."

"Not getting into any trouble?"

She giggled loudly.

"Demi, what did you do?"

"No, no it's not bad. It's not bad at all. And we did it privately."

I became nosier and nosier.

"What the fuck did you do Demi?"

"It's nothing new, I just never told you."

"What did you do then? You can easily tell me if it isn't bad."

"We just smoked a few joints," She laughed.

"Demi! You realize id anyone saw you how bad that would be fore yoir career?" I demanded, angrily.

"Relax, we did it in my basement. Like always."

"You do this often?"

"Yeah, a few times a week."

"Why didn't you ever tell me?" I growled.

"Because I knew you'd react like this. Ally, it's not a big deal."

I reasoned, "I'm just not really into people who do drugs."

"It's not that bad, honestly."

"I just wish you told me!"

"Why? Would that have changed your answer on dating me?"

I sighed, "Dems, it's 1am. Can we talk about this tomorrow?"

"Yeah. You wanted to ask me something?"

"My parents want you to come over for dinner tomorrow."

"Your parents? Not you?" She waited. "Sure. I'll be there."

"Thanks. Talk to you tomorrow."

"Wait, Ally?"

I fell silent, waiting for her to say something, probably something stupid trying to save this conversation.

"I love you," She spoke.

My eyes watered, why? I don't know. All I do know was that it was the best 3 words I'd ever heard.

"I love you too."

"See you tomorrow Alls."

The phone call ended, leaving me happier than I've been in months, maybe even years.
