Entry Log #478652 Star Date 31/87

It always seemed to begin like this... We would be out on an off day between missions, next thing you know Euanthe would stop and get all jittery.

"Oh, look at all the pretties!" Her voice buzzed with excitement, I sighed heavily.

"Can you please stop talking about assault rifles the same way you do about shoes?" I had asked sweetly, though it was obvious to her that I was tired.

She spun around on her heel, giving me a soft glare. Crossing her arms defensively over her chest, she huffed.

"Wow, way to a such a downer on our off day from work, Ramirus. Now stop being sad! I bet they'll have something you'll want to~!" She sang to me.

Defeated, I followed her into the small corner shop. It wasn't all that fancy like some shops on this god forsaken planet, but it was quite cozy. Euanthe was eagerly drooling on the counter over guns, where as I found myself wandering towards the blades. They aren't very effective in our "business" but I still liked the look of them. They were elegant and graceful but difficult to wield.

"Ram! Come 'ere! I found something interesting!" Her voice breaking through my day dreaming. Wordlessly, I returned to her side to see what all her commotion was about. What I saw however took my breath away. It was a blade, but was different somehow. The edge looked like it could slice bone like paper, but it's hilt was beautifully crafted around it. Small jewels lay beneath the shell, as if apart of the universe itself was trapped within. I felt a hand against my arm and almost jumped, but Euanthe just smiled.

"Happy anniversary of partnership in the business, Ram."

I remember being so happy, maybe even shedding a few tears. Euanthe was the best partner and friend I'd ever have. But that was a long time ago...

/////

It's been seven long years since I lost you, Euanthe. Everyday the memories of you linger on my skin. You were so gentle and kind, and... happy. When we first met, the boss had assigned us together. You were so young then, fresh meat on your first day on the job with the "business". You got on my nerves like a sibling now and then, but we were fast friends. We bantered, and fought... We were the best goddamn team the "business" had, Elite Class. We fought together in so many battles and watched each others backs so many times. You got on my case for still fighting when wounded, even though it was because I had protected you instead of myself. You got me my beloved blade all those years ago that I still wear at my hip as a reminder of you. You were always so cheery, and loved pulling pranks. You never could seem to sit still, except when it mattered most on missions. You were clever and so brave compared to me, Euanthe. Why, did fate have to take you away? Sometimes, I look up thinking you're still here, lingering in my doorway or out of the corner of my eyes. Sometimes I can still hear your sweet voice ringing in my ears. There's only one thing I regret, Euanthe. Heh. It's silly isn't it? I can still remember how you got excited over assault rifles like shoes...

I never got to tell you, I love you...
