Chapter 7

I ran longer than usual. The thoughts in my head distracted me and I'm starting to think that running isn't the best thing to do.

Maybe I should start training again.

Having a trainer was always good.

But he pissed me off, as does everyone.

"The usual, Mr Malik?" Eve questions. After taking a shower, I make my way downstairs and perch myself on the stool next to my already brewed tea.

"Please." I murmur, reading over my emails.

"Would you like the pill today, sir?"

I shake my head. "No."

I'm stronger than that!

"Yes, sir." As usual, I hear the disappointment lurking in her voice, but she doesn't show it in her expression, which is good I guess. It'll probably piss me off if I do see it.

"I'll be heading out to Ireland tomorrow for the night, I need you to make sure Victoria sleeps well."

"Yes, sir."

"I'm sure you are already aware of her food dislikes."

"Yes, sir."

"The only person who is able to come in is Waliyha or Amber. No one else. Blaise will be present also, in case he's needed."

She smiles and nods. "Yes, sir."

I pick up the Monday newspaper and I feel the presence of Victoria, taking the stool next to me.

"Morning." She murmurs quietly.

I shift to face her, to get a glimpse of her expression and she seems fine, until I look back down at the paper.

"Good morning." I reply, morbidly.

From the corner of my eye, she looks down and places her elbows on the counter to lean forward. "Are we going to talk about-"

"You told me your part. Now it's my turn." I explain as Eve places my plate in front of me.

"Good morning Re, would you like some breakfast?" Eve questions and I continue on with the pointless article about politics as I chow down my food.

"Uh not yet. I'll have a shower first, thank you. But I really do feel like Chinese." She replies and faces me again as Eve dismisses her presence from us.

"You're not having Chinese food for breakfast." I murmur.

"I know." She smiles but I continue eating.

"I just want to know what was wrong with you yesterday, and what you were thinking when you found out that you are bipolar?!" Victoria questions.

"Can we talk about this when I come back from work?" I ask quietly as I finish off my plate and drink it down with the rest of my tea

I don't want to have a lot on my mind when I'm at work, because it's bad enough we have a meeting with Detective Dwayne and his lunatic daughter he can't take a fucking simple no as an answer.

Stubborn bitch.

Victoria nods and smiles, but it's forced.

"Well.." I stand to my feet and fold the newspaper in half to place it back on the bench. "I have to go to work. I'll see you in a couple of hours." Just as I'm about to grab her, I stop myself, remembering the dark truth that she despises my touch.
