[ meet me in the hallway - harry styles]

——————————————————————————

It was midnight and the only light was radiating off the small television set in the corner of the room. The only sounds were the cars passing on the street far below and the sound of light breathing. A potted plant rested tucked in a corner off by the large windows. A multitude of small plants sat on counters and tables around the cramped flat. A record player and multiple crates of records sat on the floor next to the old television set. The two possible lovers sat at a fair distance across from each other on the small and ripped couch.

An odd tension and confusion hung loosely in the atmosphere. The air had a bitter taste of cinnamon and lemon. Soft and restless sighs escaped through chapped lips melting into the air, creating a smoke screen of indelible stress. The much needed words and much craved actions had been long forgotten.

Five words. Six syllables. Five words hung loosely in the air, muttered through a screen of tears.

Meet me in the hallway

Five words, which created such an overwhelming tension. It wasn't supposed to be like this. It was supposed to just be a simple, stupid fling. A thoughtless act. Not an act full of mixed signals and mind boggling feelings. Neither one wanted to hear or say those five simple words. It didn't matter who said and thought them first, they had both said those same words at some point.

Meet me in the hallway

How could five simple words create such an awkward tension? How could five simple words hold so much promise and so much disappointment all at the same time? How could five simple words be so destructive yet so constructive?

What were they both waiting for so desperately? What were they both yearning for? Why couldn't they just let their feelings be known? Why couldn't they just trade the 'possible lovers' label for something else? Something more cemented. Something more indelible.

They didn't expect to crave each other in more ways than just physical. They craved each other physically, mentally, and emotionally. They didn't expect to want more from this, from each other. Maybe they couldn't call it love yet, but maybe, just maybe, it could blossom into something more.
