Mallorie
"Are you ready? Do you have everything?" My mother asked me, handing me my luggage out of the car trunk.
"Yes mom, I have everything. Let's go get me checked in for my flight, shall we?" I suggested.
"Yes I suppose that would be a good thing to do. I just can't believe that you're going to be gone for so long..." She said, staring down at her feet. I looked at her soft expression with what looked like tears forming in her eyes. It hurt my heart to see her so pained.
"Mom, don't you dare start crying on me now. You promised." I said in a stern voice.
She wiped under her eyes and said, "Yes, yes I did. Leave it to you Mallorie to keep me to my promises."
I rolled my eyes and smiled. "Are you sure that you're ready? You'll be okay, right?"
"I am 35 years old, Mallorie." She put her hands on her hips and got into a "chicken-neck" pose. "I handled myself before I had you."
"Yes but that was 15- almost 16- years ago." I put on my backpacks and was holding a suitcase. "Nevermind. Do you have my ticket and passport?"
"Yes. 1pm departure from Portland, Oregon to a 5pm arrival in Busan, South Korea. Sigh..." She said, holding the door open for me.
"What are you sighing about?" I asked as we walked to the counter.
"It's just... I've never been so far away from you for such a long amount of time... I'm gonna miss you Mallie-Bear." I hated that nickname.
"Mom. I said not to call me that."
"I am your mother. I will call you as I please." The lady at the counter was trying to hold in a smile.
"How may I help you?" I kinda zoned out while my mother checked me in. She's overprotective that way. Never letting me do my own things.
Am I really doing this? I thought. I am seriously going to Busan as an exchange student... I need to make sure that I am practicing my Korean on the plane...
"Alright you're all set! You can go and put your luggage on the conveyor belt right over there. Have a wonderful flight!" The woman said smiling and pointing to the left.
"Thank you!" I said. My mom helped me load everything on. I made sure that I had my laptop, phone, charger, book, and most importantly- headphones.
We left in perfect time so I didn't really have to wait long to board my plane. My mom just kept staring at me. She was crying again. "Well I guess this is it, then." I pulled her toward me into a tight embrace. She shoved something into my sweatshirt pocket. "I'm going to miss you so much Mallie-Bear. No, I don't care what you want right now. I love you..."
"I love you too, mom." We stood there for a second until I said, "Well I should get going now... Bye mom." I turned and started walking.
"You be good, Mallorie Rose Montana or I swear to God-." I turned and smiled at her. Oh! I should tell him that I'm on my way! I'm sure that he would like to know. I pulled out my phone and opened up my Messenger.
Next_Mrs_Min: Heyyo I just wanted to tell you I'm boarding my plane now ^_^
Burger_Kang: Oh cool! I won't kill your phone bill and leave you alone. Tell me when you land!
Next_Mrs_Min: Okie dokie then. Ttyl bestie ; )
Burger_Kang: Bai you dork -__-
I put my phone back in my pocket And boarded the plane. I waited until we were off the ground and I thought the captain would have no more to say when I put my headphones in and fell asleep.
