There was a knock at the office door followed by a middle aged man poking his head in. "You wanted to see me?" He asked as he opened the door just enough to slide into the room.

"Lester, yes, come in." The man at the desk shuffled some papers into a neat stack, placed them into a manila folder and set it off to the side. "Have a seat." His hand motioned to the chair sitting across from him.

Lester came in, shutting the door behind him, and sat in the uncomfortable chair facing his boss. "What can I do for you Jack?"

"How long have you worked with us Lester?" Jack asked leaning back and interlacing his hands behind his head.

"Almost twenty years." Lester answered.

"Twenty years. That's quite the career."

"What this about Jack?" Lester nervously asked.

"Our accountants brought some irregularities to us about a week ago and after an in depth investigation we found something very disturbing and very surprising.I'll give you credit for getting away with it for so many years, but I don't understand why you did it. Why throw away twenty years of work?"

Lester shifted nervously in the chair."What are you talking about?"

"You've been embezzling money for years. There's no sense in denying it there's ample proof and it all points to you."

"But I didn't..." Lester stammered.

"Listen Lester. I like you. Up until now I thought you were a stellar member of this family. Because of that I'm going to give you the dignity of walking out of here on your own instead of getting hauled off by the police. Clean out your cubicle and leave quietly or I'll be forced to call security to escort you out."

"Jack, I didn't have anything to do with this."

"It's over Lester. Don't make this more difficult than it has to be."

Lester sat there in shock for a moment then dejectedly rose to his feet and shuffled out of the room with his head hanging low. He made his way through the rows of cubicles until he reached the copy room where he took an empty copy paper box and returned to his desk. He took the lid off the box and set it aside.

His co-worker popped up from the other side of the cubicle wall and folded his arms on it's top. "Hey,what's going on? What did Jack want?"

Lester leaned in close to the man."I'm going to prison." Lester whispered just loud enough for his friend to hear.

"Wait, hang on a sec. What do you mean you're going to prison?"

"He told me there's abundant evidence that I've been embezzling money from the company for years. I'm screwed."

"That's insane."

"Isn't it though? I don't even know how I would begin stealing money from the company in the first place."

"What are you going to do?"

"The only thing I can do. Lawyer up and defend myself. You know, hope for the best."

"I have a call. Good luck buddy."

"Thanks Lars."

Lester looked down at his desk and realized he had nothing personal to pack up. Everything contained within was just office supplies he had no reason to take with him. He placed the empty box on the desk and made his way out of the building stopping only to turn in his badge at the security desk at the entrance. Outside a gray overcast haze hung overhead casting a dim light on him. A stiff wind batted at his tie and a chill washed over him. He stood there in front of the building watching the cars go by before his finally finally took him to the nearby bus stop.

Standing in the small enclosed glass bus stop waiting for the bus fidgeted uneasily while trying to come to grips with his new reality. Someone coughed to his right and he looked over to find an utterly unremarkable little old lady in a heavy over coat he'd been completely oblivious of moments before. Ashe turned away from her something on the glass caught his eye. He stepped nearer the old lady in order to gt a closer look. Scrawled across a badly xeroxed page were the words Victims of Wicked Men in heavy letting made by a large tipped permanent marker. Below that in finer neater script it read Support group for those seeking light in a wicked world followed by an address and meeting times. At the very bottom were tabs with the address and times. Carefully he ripped one off and placed it in his breast pocket. The bus arrived shortly thereafter and he stepped aboard for the commute home.

When he got home the police were waiting outside his apartment door.

"Thanks Jack."He cursed under his breath.

"Lester Acker?"One of the officers asked as he approached them.

"Yeah, that's me."

"Lester Acker you are under arrest for embezzling money from your employer Ares Macrotechnology." The officer reached for his cuffs as he closed the distance between them.

Lester held up a hand to stop him. "Hang on a second. I'm starving. Can I just go inside and have a quick lunch? Hell, I'll make you guys lunch if you want. I promise I'm not going to run."

The officer looked back at his partner who simply shrugged. "Sure, we can do that. What's on the menu?"
