I woke up feeling tired and stressed from a long night of work. I looked at my alarm, it was 30 minutes past nine, and I had to be at work by 10! It already takes me 40 minutes to get to work. I quickly got out of bed to take my shower. When I got out of the shower, I wrapped the warm towel around my cold body.
I decided to wear my white blouse with my navy blue blazer and matching skirt. I put my long, black, curly hair in a neat bun and let my bangs hang over part of my forehead. I grabbed my black rectangular glasses, put them on, then my phone and headed out the door.
Moments later after reaching my car, I forgot that I had left my keys in my apartment. Ugh! I was already late for work, I didn't need anymore delays. I started panicking, but I remembered that I had my phone with me. Quickly, I called my best friend Crystal. After the second ring, she answered.
"Oh my God Crystal, thank goodness you answered!" I said breathing heavy. "Sure, Wait, what's wrong, you okay?" she asked worried. "I kinda sorta, forgot to grab my keys from my bedroom, and now I can't get into my car!" I said frustrated and angry at the same time. "Calm down Breanna, I'll be there in 10 minutes"
she said trying to calm me down, as she hung up the phone.
While I waited for her to come, a woman approached me. She was tall and lean, beautiful tanned-brown skin and long straight black hair. "Hi, do know where Marcus Williams is?" she said with an attitude. "I dont know" I snapped back. How was I supposed to know, I don't even know who the guy is! "Well you could have just said no, bitch!" she said and walked off. When she left into the elevator, I felt someone behind me.
"Ahh!" I screamed. "Shut up, why you always have to be so damn loud" the girl said. I turned around to see Crystal, laughing. "You're such a scaredy cat!" she said continuing to laugh. "I am not, I just thought it was some creeper or something." I said trying to blow it off, as we walked over to her car. Maybe I was kinda scared, but I didn't want her to know that.
I opened the door to the passengers side and got in the car. I turned my face towards Crystal and noticed that she was staring at me. "Why are you looking at me all disgusted?" I asked as she continued to stare. "Can I ask you something?" she asked completely disregarding my question. "Uh, hello answer my question first. And Oh My Gosh drive! We haven't moved out of this damn parking lot yet!" I yelled frustrated. She looked at me one more time, then laughed. "Will you please drive already, I'm already late as is!" I said getting angrier by the minute. My boss was strict even if I'm early, and he was gonna be even more harsh to me if he knew I was late.
She finally drove out of the parking lot and onto the road. It was silent for a moment, then Crystal began talking again. "I don't get you" she said still keeping her eyes on the road. What does she not get about me? We've been best friends since we started college, and she knows me better than anyone else in the entire world. If she doesn't like me than we shouldn't even be friends than. I mean, isn't that part of being friends, "we get each other"?
"What do you not get?" I asked trying to figure out what was wrong. She stopped at a red light, looked at me, and put her hand on my shoulder. "Breanna, I love you, you know I do, like a sister, but the years that I have known you, you just have, uh how do I say this, low-self-esteem. You'll never be able to make it in this world." she laughed giving me a fake smile. Oh she did not just go there! "Why would you say that, we're friends?!" I yelled as the tears welled up in my eyes. "Hey the truth hurts sometimes Brea." she shrugged putting her hand on my other shoulder. I quickly pushed her hand away. "Dont touch me!" I yelled, tears still streaming down my face. Thank God we made it to our job or I would have went home and cried. This was not a good start to my day.
