The buzzer rang soon after and I jogged over to the exit gate. I was the first one there. After a few minutes Brad, Kye and Tasha arrived all coming from different directions. I smiled at them, but none of them looked happy. I noticed Brad didn't have his gun.

"Hey. Where's your gun?" I asked.

"It broke when I threw it off a tree, so I left it there." Brad replied sharply. He glared at me.

"Ok. Ok" I held my hands up. I opened the door out of the arena. Brad stormed off ahead of everyone else. Kye mumbled that he had something to do and headed off in the other

"What the hell just happened?" I asked Tasha.

"Nothing. It's none of your business anyways." She shoved her gun into my hand and walked off.

I stood in confusion. What just happened? I asked myself. Did I do something wrong? Everyone seems angry and annoyed at each other. Something must have happened in the arena, everyone was nice beforehand. I put away the guns and decided to head back up to my room. I stood outside the door to my room. I could clearly hear the quiet sobs from inside the door. I debated on whether to go in. Would she want to talk about it or be on her own? I decided to go in. Tasha was curled up on the couch, her face buried in a pillow. I walked over and sat down beside her. I put my arm around her shoulder.

"Do you want to talk about it?" I said gently.

I ran. I kept running. I needed to clear my mind, wrap my head around what had happened. Now I had two people that hated me. My best friend, and the oldest friend I had. Just when I thought things were looking up, one mistake, and it all topples down on top of you. Brad obviously heard, or worse seen us when I kissed her. I ran around the long track but still reached the school in a matter of minutes. I had to make this up to Brad. So, I built up my courage and headed up to my room.

I opened the door slowly, but there was no sign of Brad. I went in for a shower. I came out, got dressed and downed a beer. Just as I was about to give up waiting for Brad to come back he came in. I stood up. Brad didn't look at me.

"Hey, Brad, I'm so sorry about what happened. I didn't mean to. I wasn't thinking." I started. He walked over to me, and punched me on the jaw. I stumbled and yelled out.

"You weren't thinking? Obviously not. What kind of friend would you be if you went around kissing your friend's girlfriends?" Brad retorted.

"Brad, please, it never meant to happen, and it won't again. I'm really sorry." I said.

"How can I believe you. I have known you all my life and you do this to me! I thought I could trust you." He shouted.

"No, you can go grab your shit and get out. "

And that's exactly what I did. I didn't say anything else to him. He was too hot headed to try reason with him. So I left. I walked along the hills and found a tree where I lay underneath it. I stared up to the sky. It was clear and the stars shone. I closed my eyes and listened as the owls hooted, and the breeze ruffled the leaves. I concentrated on my hearing, and I heard the sound of growling. It was far away but close enough to see me. It was the sound of a demon.

I told Connor everything, and it felt good to let it out. I told him how I felt about it, even kissing Kye back. Connor was a good listener. He didn't interrupt me, even when I broke down in tears, he just sat there in silence, allowing me to let it all out. He didn't judge either.

"Do you think I should go talk to Brad?" I asked.

"Maybe, I think it will make you feel better if you get it off your chest." He replied.

"Ok. I'm going to do it now. Do you know where his room is?" I asked.

"Yeah, it's up on the next floor turn left and the third door on the right." He said as I got up went to the mirror and wiped my eyes. I headed towards the door.

"Thanks" I said to Connor.

"No problem."

I closed the door and made my way down to the end of the hallway. I climbed the marble staircase, each step echoing as I climbed. In my head I was trying to think of what to say to Brad, the whole truth? It wouldn't be fair to lie to him, but the truth can hurt. My legs moved automatically, as if they knew where they were going. A minute later I was standing outside room 84B. I knocked, but heard no answer. I opened the door, and saw Brad's back against the couch.

"What do you want?" he stood up and looked around.

"I came to apologize. That kiss meant absolutely nothing to me. Don't let it change things between us." I said.

"How am I supposed to believe you. This changes a lot. I have known Kye most of my life. We are partners. I never thought he would do something like this." Brad shouted and threw the beer bottle in his hand against the wall, where it smashed.

I walked over to Brad. He looked away from me. I placed the palms of my hands on his cheeks and faced him to me. He avoided eye contact.

"Brad look at me." He lifts his eyes.

"This doesn't change how I feel for you. I still love you. Please say you forgive me."

Brad places his hands on my back and presses his lips against mine. It feels so good, and I wrap my hands around his neck pulling him closer.

"I love you." He said against my lips.

"I love you too."

With nothing else to do I decided to go outside for a run. A proper run, where I could run as fast as I wanted. It felt free to run. I followed the track around the hills. The wind was cool and whipped through my hair. I could hear every small stone crunch against the ground with each step. My cougar necklace bounced off my chest. It reminded me of the sense of pride when I was presented my necklace. I stopped running when I reached the outside of the school. I sat by the fountain, and clasped my hand around my cougar. It felt great to be immortal. I'm probably the youngest immortal slayer in the world. I often wondered if I should have waited until I was older but at the time I couldn't think of a reason not to take the test.

I closed my eyes and listened. I could hear my heavy breaths from a proper sprint, but I could also hear the low growling of a demon. I instantly became alert. I opened my eyes and headed towards the noise of the demon. What demon would roam so close to an academy?
