Chapter 8: Control

Start from the beginning

Leaning back to the pillar, I find the creature back to its feet, ready for another round. His healing must be as quick as mine. No longer is there blood or bullet holes on his abdomen. Just his fully healed scaly body.

The man, whom I assume to be Chris, turns around from his vehicle after he hears the hissing sound from the creature and reacts quickly. Unholstering his gun, he repeats the previous action from before and one after another, bullets soar through the air. He only manages to fire five bullets before his clip completely emptied, which gives the Kanima the advantage to knock him down.

Once Chris is down, but not harmed, the creature turns to the other older man, not bothering with Chris anymore. Furrowing my eyebrows, I realize that this isn't just any man, but the principle of Beacon Hills. An Argent. Derek told me about an older Argent named Gerard recently appearing into town after the death of Kate Argent. He knows exactly who this man is and he probably fears him more than the rest.

While Gerard stares down the lizard, I notice that he doesn't show a trace of fear. Nothing in his eyes can be detected during his encounter with the lizard, and that intrigues me. Isn't he supposed to be unloading another clip into him? Slicing him in half with a sword? Something that will rid the town of this murderer so we can go back to focusing on other priorities? Why isn't he moving?

And when I thought things couldn't get any more bizarre, Scott dashes at his foe from the depths of the alley and shoves the thing away from the hunter. They too have a moment to stare at each other before Scott breaks it and chases after the runaway.

Dammit. Where the hell is Derek? Now Scott's ahead of us and we still don't know how to kill this thing. And I just watched two hunters fail at their own attempts at riding him. We're going to have to do some research on this thing.

Without a moment to spare, I travel at high speed through the alleys behind me to gain a distance between the two hunters and myself. After a few miles of running, I finally find Derek jogging through the busiest side of town.

"What the hell, Derek?" I yell as I catch up to him. "You just took off without me when the Argents showed up."

"I didn't take off," He informs me as he stops under a light post and glances around for any sign of our new enemy. "I was hiding."

"Meaning you saw Argent use Jackson as target practice," I state. "How are we supposed to kill him when that barely phased him? He heals as fast as I do. He practically absorbed those bullets.

"We don't know that it's Jackson," he argues with me. "And as for killing it, I'm going to rip it's throat out." What does he mean 'we don't know if it's Jackson? I know!

I stare at him as he starts to walk away, "What other teenager was bitten by an Alpha? Huh? If it's not Lydia, it's Jackson. Those are the only two people that have been bitten by either you or Peter. Unless you bit someone else and you're hiding that, too?"

"No," he grumbles from my interrogation. At least he didn't ignore me as per usual.

"Derek, he may have passed the test, but it's him," I fight back. He said that a snake can't be poisoned by its own venom, but what if it didn't work because Jackson wasn't a Kanima at the time. He was Jackson when we tested him which made him vulnerable to his own venom. It's the only logical explanation to this because he is the Kanima. I know it.

Derek rolls his eyes, "There's no proof." Since when did Derek Hale need proof of anything? He always assumes the worst out of everyone. Besides, I thought he wanted this kid dead.

"Can you catch a scent?" I ask him, deciding to bring this subject up when we aren't in the middle of hunting. I want to hurry and find this thing so we can get back to the depot.
