"D, how many boxes are left?" River screams from downstairs.
"Just two more and that's it." I scream back, I swear he can't wait to get rid of me.
Shutting the door to my old room leaves me feeling a little empty inside. I'm going to miss home a lot more than I care to admit, but I'm ready to leave the past behind and start fresh. A new scenery is what I needed and as much as I loved my family despite their flaws I couldn't help but feel out of the loop. I was the black sheep. As I walked down the hallway filled with photos and memories of the past I stop at a photo of my dad. "I miss you." I silently whisper to myself.
A tear slides down my cheek but I quickly wipe it away as I hear movement downstairs. I sling my bag over my shoulders and skip down the stairs, my brother glaring at me and his watch. His light stubble had now grown into a full on beard. And the bags under his eyes where now more prominent. All the early morning and late nights were starting to take a toll on him. After my Father's death River took life very seriously. His partying days where now over and where replaced with Business meetings, conference calls and a whole lot of coffee.
"Are you ready?" He asks putting his hand into his suit pocket causing a slight jingling noise.
"Yep." I smile enthusiastically knowing what's in his pocket. I had been waiting for this moment ever since I had passed my driving test. Sighing at my enthusiasm he reluctantly hands me over a set of keys with an Audi sign engraved into it.
I practically snatch the keys out of his hand ready to say my goodbyes and run towards the door ready to speed off into the sunset in my new car. However before I could open the door River pulls me back knocking me on my ass.
"Careful sis." He smirks.
"What's all that noise about." Mom exclaims rushing in. "Durrani dear get up your making marks on the floor."
I hear a burst of air followed by River's cackle. I narrow my eyes at him getting up.
"Who are you the wicked witch of the west." I smirk. "It wasn't that funny." I say rolling my eyes at him.
"And you!" I glare pointing at my mom. "What kind of parent is more concerned about the floor than there daughters safety."
"You know I love you." She rolls her eyes winking. "Now come over here and give mamma a hug."
Once River packed all my stuff into my new car muttering profanities under his breath and complaining about women. He then decided to give me a 10,000 word essay about college boys and once that 'talk' was over I was more than ready to leave. Mom ran down the drive in her robe and slippers giving me another bone crushing hug. For the first time in my life I truly feel like she's going to miss me. River gave me one of his gross sibling hugs and I literally had to hold the vomit in my mouth.
"I set the GP have a safe trip sis."
I had my red bull in the cup holder and all my snacks sprawled out on the passenger seat. The drive to West Quay took around 3 hours depending on traffic so I made sure I was prepared. Every half hour I received a text from either mom or River asking how the drive is going.
3 hours later and I was finally pulling up into my home away from home. West Quay college has been my first choice ever since I visited the campus with River a few years ago when he was applying for collages. I fell in love with it instantly and have dreamed of coming here ever since.
The car park was so full it took me forever to find a parking space. I felt like I had been driving around in circles before I spotted and empty bay on the other side of the car park. I quickly changed gears and sped to the other side in hopes of claiming the space. Just as I was about to turn in a 4X4 sped In front of me parking into the bay. I quickly hit the break but despite my effort our cars were too close and I lightly crashed into the back of the car causing me to jerk forward and my snacks to sprawl all over the car floor. Great now I'm going to have to get that cleaned.
River is going to flip his lid if the cars damaged. I quickly took of my seat belt and got out my Audi to see if I had damaged the other car, but most importantly to see if there were any scratches on mine.
I jogged over to the front of my car to find a few little scratches on it. I guess it could have been worse. I can totally cover that up. I looked over at the tinted windows of the Range Rover and walked towards the back of the car to see the damage. West Quay was a lot hotter than back home and I could feel my sweat glands opening in the heat. I seriously needed to change into something more summery.
Just as I bent down to inspect the car I heard the click of the door opening. I turned around ready to shout at the idiot who decided to crash into my car and steal my parking space. That was until I saw his face. If all college guys looked like him it was going to be a great few years. I could feel my cheeks heating up immediately. Did someone turn up the sun?
I stood there.Gaping at him. Like an idiot. Until he spoke.
"Are you going to apologise for that little dent in my car sweetheart?" He smirked lifting his sunglasses on top of his head. He leaned against his car, his muscles flexing underneath his grey t shirt.
"Said the one who crashed into me. Clearly that spot was mine first." I narrowed my eyes at him, placing my hands on my hips.
His green eyes glistened in the sunlight at my remark and a slight dimple appeared on his left cheek and he moved around me inspecting the dent in detail. Up close I could see his features more in depth. His dark brown curly hair was tousled back messily and his light stubble suggested he hadn't shaved in a while. He then walked around me lighting a cigarette but still held my gaze. The strong scent of his cologne and the smoke pulled me in like a drug.
He was trouble. And I was addicted.
"You owe me." He said blowing smoke out of his mouth. "What's your name?" He said taking another drag from his cigarette.
"Duranni Calloway." I replied dryly. Watching his every movements.
He smirked once more opening the car door flicking his cigarette on the floor in a swift motion.
"And you are?" I stepped back allowing him to reverse out of the space. He wound down his windows looking at me dead in the eyes.
"Brice Thompson." He smirked. speeding off.
