Lost Love [~Toffee~]
Chapter 11
The sun rose earlier than normal on the day of the ball. Toffee woke only partially to the bustling townspeople in the streets, all being excited to attend their Queen’s special party. He groaned. Parties, dances, balls - whatever they wished to call them - had never appealed to him. He liked blending in with the background, never drawing too much attention to himself.
This ball in particular, however, was going to be hosted in the Butterfly’s castle, where the gorgeous princess of Mewni would be put on display; undoubtedly for all the other little princes in Mewni. The thought of the other men pulled a growl from deep within his groggy chest.
Elara was his, only his. And his sleepy mind brought forth daydreams his normal, sober self would never dare to think. It only took him a few moments to finally register the disgustingness floating through his consciousness.
“Damn you…” He cursed his hazy thoughts and his body’s reaction to Her.
He sat up quickly, shaking his head and running shaking hands through his dark and messy hair. Waking up had always been hard; during sleep his mind would wander and ever since he had met the beautiful princess, she had plagued his every dream. When he woke, he would have to shelter his mind against her and bring back every sense of decency he owned. Though he would never admit to enjoying the time he spent with her in his dreams.
Groaning for a second time, He swung his feet over the side of the bed, then stood and stretched his tired limbs. It was time for his normal morning ritual: cold shower and breakfast.

Elara woke shortly after Toffee would, waking with a gigantic smile on her face. She was beyond ready for the ball, ready to try on dresses and choose only the most perfect one. All for Toffee, of course.
She practically leaped from her bed, much like she had done a few days before when Toffee and his king had visited the castle, and sprinted towards the shower. When she spun the fancy handles and stepped under the steady stream from the showerhead, the hot water steamed against her skin. Sighing, she began the long process of washing her hair and body three times over.
When she had finally finished, she slipped on a casual dress just to wear around the castle for the day, and walked back into the bedroom. Moon, who had slept that night in Elara’s bedroom, woke when her older sister came back.
“Sis..? You’re… Awake reallllllly early.” Her hair was an absolute mess, and drool caked her chin. But she was still adorable to Elara.
Elara giggled, “Of course I am, silly. The ball is tonight, remember?”
Moonie made a silly face, like always, with her eyebrows lifting and falling over and over. Her messy appearance made it all the more funny.
“Oooh! That means I get to see you dance with your new boyfriend,” Her eyebrow fluttering intensified as she spoke, causing Elara to snort back boisterous laughter.
“He isn’t my boyfriend…” She paused, still having to hold back the painful laughs from sore lungs. This caused Moon’s right eyebrow to stay positioned all the way up her tiny forehead, while the other stayed normal above her left eye. She would stay like that until Elara finished her thought.
Elara smirked, and copied Moonie’s ridiculous eyebrow raising look:
“...Yet.”
Moon started the chorus of ‘ooh’s’ and excited squeals and Elara joined shortly after - both of them fangirling over the fact Elara was deeply in love.

A knock at the door brought Toffee’s attention back to earth, as he had zoned out almost completely while he scarfed down his breakfast. He had been imagining how the ball would go, how everyone in Mewni would react to him, a Septarian, dancing with their beloved Princess Elara. But Toffee knew that if she asked for a dance, he wouldn’t be able to deny her or himself the privilege.
Toffee, very reluctantly, started for the door and swung it open with a little too much force. Again, he was too lost.
“Well, you seem a little disgruntled.” The king’s soft voice and even softer chuckle made Toffee wince a little.
“I apologize, your Majesty.” He rubbed the base of his neck, “I have a lot on my mind.”
The king chuckled once more and motioned for Toffee to follow him. “Likely about the ball, correct?”
At first, Toffee didn’t answer. He simply closed the door behind him and followed closely behind his king. He didn’t know how the king knew what was on his mind.
“Yes, but…” Toffee spoke, as calmly as possible, “May I ask how you know?”
“I know things; things that are incomprehensibly obvious to anyone who’s gotten close to you.” The king turned to gaze at Toffee as they walked down the street, towards the tailor’s shop, and winked.
Toffee instantly recoiled, stopping dead in the middle of the dirt road. It caught him by surprise, even though he had a feeling his king knew. Other than Elara, the monster king was the only other person who had seen his softer, more vulnerable side.
Soon, after a Mewman had bumped straight into him and glared harshly, Toffee’s senses came back and he almost sprinted to catch back up. They walked the rest of the way in silence, Toffee’s mind completely reeling. He was honestly scared, scared that someone other than the monster king knew. He was more scared for Elara than himself, of course. His care for her was something beyond love.
“Only one other person knows.” The monster king mumbled, just before they entered the tailor’s shop.
“Who?” Toffee practically yelled, panic beginning to set in.
“The Queen.”
His heart dropped deep into his stomach. That was one person who didn’t need to suspect anything.
“How?! She can’t know!”
The king scoffed and cocked an eyebrow. “You made it obvious, like I said before. But you don’t have to worry… She’s in denial. She hopes her daughter doesn’t end up like a past queen - and she’s extremely adamant on that fact.”
“Eclipsa…” Toffee whispered the name under his breath, knowing if he said it aloud the people inside the Tailor’s shop would possibly freak out… Or worse.
The monster king nodded knowingly. “Yes, but there’s no need to worry, Toffee.” He smiled, a gesture used to try and calm the panicking Septarian, “You and Elara just need to have a good time tonight. Both of you deserve it.”
Toffee’s face curled into somewhat of a frown, and the king pressed a reassuring hand onto his shoulder.
“Trust me, Toffee; Show her how you really feel.”
**Hello again my ToffElara-addicts :) I'm back with another mediocre update for ya! I tried my best, but I really just wanted to update the actual story since it's been a little while. I finally got my inspiration back after watching a few episodes of SVTFOE Season 3. I gotta say, Eclipsa is sooooo freaking cute :3 She's like, ugh! I love that evil little cinnamon roll! Anyway, this chapter is kind of short and really uneventful. I apologize for that, but I needed to slowly ease myself back into writing after my super bad case of Writer's Block. Hopefully this can keep you all from tearing your hair out while I write the eventful goodness that is going to be Chapter 12 :) Thanks for reading! And don't forget to vote and comment; I love you all so much!!!! Stay toastyyy my dudes**
