Meg's face told it all and Robyn felt for her as she made her way back to the sofa and flopped down.
"This is a disaster. God only knows what they'll get into together!"
She couldn't help wondering that herself, however as she glanced at the clock she was grateful for the distraction that had suddenly and unexpectedly given her an excuse to bail on Liam.
"We'll just wait here for them. Together. I don't have to be to work for a few more hours and I'm sure you'd just worry yourself to death if you went to sit at home alone." Meg nodded and settled in on the couch. Robyn watched her and smiled. "You and Niall are pretty cute together."
"Oh please. Niall is a client." She waved away the insinuation in a dismissive way, but Robyn raised her brow and pursed her lips in disbelief. "Shut up."
"I didn't say anything, did I?"
Robyn smirked at the girl on the other end of the couch. Meg rolled her eyes and placed her hand on her forehead.
"Why has everybody decided to go crazy all at once?"
She mumbled to herself causing Robyn to giggle as she picked up her cell phone. She scrolled through looking for Liam's number and grimaced that she didn't have it. She was not going to call Nicki and ask her for it, for she had no desire for Nicki to know that she needed to get in touch with Liam. She also knew this put her in a bit of a bind, for surely if she didn't show up at McDonalds like she said she would Liam would show up at her door, or be waiting for her when she got off work at the bar.
He was indeed the persistent sort, and so Robyn rested her head in her hands and sighed, the freedom she'd felt a moment ago quickly dissolved as she contemplated the fact that she could not get out of this date, try as she might.
"Men are legitimately the worst, Meg."
"Tell me about it."
Maz called and his irritation at their conversation from earlier in the day was still evident in his voice as he spoke.
"Where are you?"
"I had business to take care of in Tottenham."
Liam spoke with a smile on his face as he bounded down the stairs of her building. He felt very pleased with himself, a date was a date the fact that it would be at McDonalds amused him more than anything else; it certainly did nothing to deter him or dampen his confidence. His mind spun with ideas about how he could surprise her as he listened to the voice of his friend on the other end of the line.
"I suppose I don't have to ask who you needed to meet with in Tottenham."
The envy in his voice was overpowered by hurt; anyone who didn't know Maz would have just thought he was angry but Liam knew better. He was upset that he had been replaced by Zayn, and although he understood this Liam had neither the time or the inclination to try and further explain himself or to try and coddle the other man's feelings. This was business not personal and Maz needed to realize that. The fact that he was so upset just further proved to Liam that he'd made the right decision; for as brilliant and essential to the operation as he had been in the past, he was far too sensitive to be consulted with about matters that required a more ruthless and streetwise approach.
"Business is what brought me here." Liam lied, not wanting to reveal the true reason for his visit to the neighborhood. Robyn was something he wanted to keep private, and despite her knowledge of his dealings he wanted to keep her as far away from them as possible. "Do you need me for something?"
