Chapter 7

"Autumn!" Tony yells. "It's Christmas!"

I open my eyes and smell Damian on my sheets. Yesterday comes back to me all at once; the necklace, the lights, the pictures.

"What are you talking about?" I ask. "Christmas was yesterday."

"You must've had a pretty weird dream," Ben raises an eyebrow.

"Let's go see what Santa brought us!" Tony beams.

"Come on, Autumn!" Ben grabs my hand and tries to yank me out of bed.

"You guys go wake up mom," I nod. "I'll be right down."

The boys scurry out of my room and I grab my phone to check the date. December twenty-fifth. Christmas Day. I jump out of bed and open my closet door. I dig through and search for the pictures with Damian. I find them all on top of the shoebox, right where I left them. Every single one is there. I flip through them and smile. I really did get one more day with Damian.

How could this have happened?

How can this be true?

I reach up and touch my neck, remembering that I took the necklace off before bed. I jump over to my nightstand and throw open the top drawer. I pick up the tiny box and open it. I see the necklace and pull it out, holding it to my chest. A piece of paper flutters to the floor. I bend down and grab it, unfolding it quickly. Five words are written on its surface: Do you believe in magic?

And that's the end! Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this. I hope you guys enjoyed it. Merry Christmas to everyone celebrating!
