"I don't want this day to end," I sigh as we reach my street.
"I know," he frowns. "Do you want me to walk you in?"
"Let me just make sure no one is up," I say. "I don't want my brothers to see you and get very confused."
"I love your brothers," he smiles.
"They love you, too," I grin.
I quietly open the front door and smile when I see that all the lights are out. I tiptoe up the stairs and check the bedrooms. Everyone's asleep. I make my way back to the front door and wave Damian in.
"Just be quiet," I whisper. "I don't want to wake them."
He nods in response and I lead him to my room. I change into pajamas and lay down in bed before tugging Damian down next to me.
"I love you," I say as I snuggle in close to him.
"I love you, too," he pulls me in for a kiss and tucks my hair behind my ears. "I had fun with you today."
"I had fun with you, too," I smile. "I don't want this to end."
"I know, baby," he whispers.
"I'm gonna miss you," I frown.
"I know," he nods. "I'm always gonna be right there with you."
"Promise?" I ask.
"I promise," he nods. "And I want you to move on from me. From us."
"Damian, no," I shake my head.
"Yes," he says. "You deserve the world, Autumn. I wanted to be the one to give it to you, but it didn't quite work out that way. I want you to find someone who treats you better than I did. I want you to be happy."
"You make me happy!" I protest.
"And if I could continue to, I would," he asserts. "But we both know I can't. You need to be happy and have a family one day. I know how much you want to have kids. Autumn, if you're happy, I'm happy. And you're not gonna be happy again until you get some closure and move on from us. I want to see you with that smile that makes your eyes light up, and hear that laugh that makes everyone in the room smile. I want you to be so full of life like you always were. I want you to be you again."
He wipes my tears and kisses my forehead.
"I love you," he says.
"I love you, too," I sob. "I wish you'd be here when I wake up."
"God, so do I," he shakes his head, a tear of his own is falling now.
I lay my head on his chest and his arms wrap around me. He begins to rub my back as I close my eyes.
"I love you," I cry.
"I love you, too," he says, his voice shaky. "Forever."
"Forever," I smile.
