"Okay, so if you step on my hands and I can give you a boost," Luke stated as we both continued staring up at the tree. I wasn't sure still if he was serious about this whole idea, but something inside scared me that he actually was.
"If you're serious, why me?" I ask, "Like, I'm sure you're a much better tree climber. I'm just an innocent female,"
"And I'm an innocent male!" Luke protested, chuckling, although when he realised I wasn't laughing along with him, he suddenly went all serious, "No, you're smaller so you won't scare it away,"
"That's seriously your logic in all of this?" I turn to him with my hands in the air, "That literally makes no sense, can't you just buy a new packet?"
"No," Luke said seriously and I give him a look of disbelief.
"Please enlighten me why because there is no way I am going to climb up that tree without a reason worth it,"
"I don't have any money left, my mum is refusing to send me money over because of the-"
"Because of the what?" I question.
Luke shuts up for a moment, but I hope he speaks soon because I'm suddenly pretty curious. Also, I want to know why his mum sends him money over - does he still not work for himself even being eighteen? Sometimes I try in my mind to put the pieces together, but he seems to be a complex character. It's like you think you have it all figured out and you think he has finally told you something to fit things together, but then he goes and says things like that and I'm left hanging again. Not that it was my buisness anyway and that's exactly what he would say to me, probably offended that I would even ask such personal things. If someone wants to tell you something - they will.
"Look, I'm broke at the moment and these need to last me the week and I'm stressed as fuck, these are my only source of keeping any sanity!" Luke's voice got aggressive, not aggressive enough to scare me off crying like a child, but enough to realise that he has a lot of issues in his life and has it in his mind that this is his only way to sanity.
"I'll buy you some," I say without really thinking, "Well, you can buy then but I'll lend you the money, if you want,"
"I don't want that," Luke said sternly.
"You can pay me back next week when you get the money, it's no big deal,"
"Fran, I told you, I'm not going to take your money and I-"
Luke was cut off by his phone vibrating in his pocket. He rolls his eyes in frustation as he yanks his phone from his pocket, unlocking the screen and his eyes focusing on the text message.
"It's Ashton," Luke didn't seem overjoyed about the message by the way he spoke with bitterness, "Something to do with the hot water turning off and our asshole of a landlord won't fix it for us,"
"Oh, is that your call to go and help with the yelling?" I smile.
Luke eventually breaks a smile back as he puts his phone back into his pocket, "Yeah, sorry. It's just these pussy's can't seem to handle it on their own,"
"I see," I say, "But you need to lead the way back because I have no clue where I'm going,"
"It's okay, tonight we'll meet at our usual swing set,"
I nod
We begin to stroll through the woods, when I suddenly realise something which gets my heart racing and my palms sweating.
"Luke, what time is it?" I wince.
"About twelve, why?"
"My parents are literally going to go mad,"
