19- wanted for murder

"What are you doing here?" I asked as I opened up. I could instantly see that Chris was angry, though I had no idea why.

"Nice to see you too."

"I'm just surprised to see you is all."

"Yeah, well you wouldn't be if you answered any of my calls." Chris snapped. Guilt washed over me as I remembered all of the unanswered texts. It was true I had been avoiding him since we went to the gym together, but only because it had gotten so weird between us. I didn't know what to do so I just did nothing.

"Come on. We need to talk."

Chris grabbed my arm and led me to my bedroom before I could protest. As soon as we were inside, I quickly glanced around to make sure I'd left no undergarments on the floor, or condom wrappers. Yes I said wrappers, plural. Sometimes one time just isn't enough.

"What's going on?" I asked as I sat on the edge of my bed while he sat close by. Unlike Tyler, Chris wasn't afraid to sit close.

"You've been acting weird lately. Distant. And I want to know why."

"I don't know-"

"Is it because of this guy you're hooking up with?"

"I've hooked up with lots of guys before Chris, I don't know what you want me to say-"

"Tyler's the robber, isn't he?"

"What? No, I-"

"I've been asking around about him. Apparently, it's no secret that he's a criminal." Chris spoke quickly, interrupting me with every chance he got. It frustrated me, but the line of questions was throwing me off.

"Why is this your business?"

"I'm worried about you. One of the other bartenders said that Tyler's been to jail before."

"Again, why do you care-"

"For robbery, assault, and murder."

I let the words sink in and immediately denied them all. Murder? No fucking way. "No."

"You need to stop seeing him, Aly. Seriously."

That's it. I stood up, panic and anger dictating what came out of my mouth. "Where do you get off telling me what to do? It's my life, Chris. My choices. If I wanna fuck a criminal, I'll fuck a criminal. If I wanna rob a bank, I'll rob a fucking bank." I yelled. "Stay out of my life."

Chris swallowed and stay quiet for a minute. For once, he hadn't interrupted me. "I'm just worried about you. That's all."

"Get out, Chris. Now."

Chris hesitated, his eyes still on me, waiting for me to change my mind. My cold stare was unwavering, my expression darker than it had ever been before. It had to be, to cover up the panic hiding beneath.

It wasn't long before he got the hint. He shot me a regretful smile as he shuffled towards the door.

"Just know you can come to me if you're in trouble, okay?" He said, and I did nothing as I stared at him, waiting for him to leave. When my bedroom door finally closed behind him, I let out a breath that I didn't even know I was holding.

I didn't move from the bed for a while, a tornado of thoughts ripping through me and leaving me ravaged. First and foremost, Chris was way too good at piecing things together than I ever gave him credit for. It was frightening how much he knew. So much that he could probably send us all to jail.

That word stuck out next. I didn't doubt for a second that Tyler had gone to jail before. But for assault, or murder? No fucking way. On a practical level, he wouldn't be on the streets right now if he was convicted of those things. And on a more personal level, there's no way he was that kind of person.
