Et in solitudines uastas in solitudines uastas nobis dominus noster. Et quia Lamia orationem orantes ut lucifer. Accipe palmis sacrafice nostri super nos et nostros benifit terrisque salutem.

Every night, at 12 pm sharp. The peculiar chant that my mother and her odd friends say. I don't know what they're saying, they speak in a tongue I don't understand. Solis, my twin brother says to just ignore it, and that its none of my business, but I can't help being curious. Mother says it's just her reading club, but I haven't seen her touch a book in years. And besides, who has a reading club at midnight? That's absolutely absurd. I turn towards the large dining table and warm my hands by the candelabras. The fire quivered so violently that it was as if it was trying to warm itself as well as the room. The door behind me suddenly creaks open and my hands hit the candle, sending a burning pain through my cold fingers. My mother and her reading group stand in the entrance. "Hello Mother, how was your reading club?" I ask as I walk over towards the polished stone basin to run my hand under the cold water. "Oh, it was wonderful darling." She leans over and gives me a light kiss on the cheek. It makes me want to vomit. My mother has always been peculiar, the lies have become a part of my life, yet they still make my stomach churn. "Where's your brother?" She questions, raising her eyebrow.

"I'm not quite sure. He said he was going to study for his Latin exam." I lie. My brother has gone to meet his girlfriend: Arbor. Mother doesn't know about her. Solis didn't tell her, I'm still not quite sure why. He told me mum wouldn't approve of her and I didn't question his judgement. Mother nods and walks out of the room. I'm alone again.
