Chapter 29
The whole house was overflowing with police officers and agents. Phones were all over the place, as well as laptops. All our personal phones were hooked to tracking signals. We were hoping that Zainab might somehow call us.It was a bleak hope on our part. But it was something we could at least hold on too. It was around three in the afternoon. Not a single thing was found to aid us in our search.
I had originally hoped that we might be able to track her down. Because I hooked a tracking device on the diamond necklace I gave her. But we couldn't locate her at all. I sighed with frustration. It seemed like all our options were being destroyed, but I had faith that we would find her alive.
"Did you find anything about the name Alric?" I asked agent Johnson who was sitting next to me
He shook his head.
"Nothing important, a first name alone isn't enough. But we are still trying to find a connection between that name and Zoey king. Since she was his first kill, and he did fake his death after her death. We should have something in the next thirty minutes or so," he assured me.
I nodded unable to form anything else.
Agent Harrison came toward me, signaling for me to follow him. I got up and followed him outside into the backyard.
"I just got a report about a car that was burned down yesterday, around nine p.m. After a quick analysis, reports indicate that it was Zainab's car," He said.
I leaned against the wall.
"Was....she.." I broke off unable to finish it.
"She wasn't in it. I'm guessing he did it to throw us off his case. Her car was found where her friend lives. We brought her friend in for questioning. Would you like to listen in?" He asked.
I nodded too numb to speak.
We went back inside, and all the way into Zainab's room. I saw a girl sitting on her bed crying, a man who I assumed to be her dad shushing her. My mom and dad were in one corner of the room. While Yahya and her dad were in the other, I stood by the door and leaned against the door frame.
"Please calm down miss," soothed agent Harrison.
He gave her a glass of water. She took it gratefully, taking a couple of sips and calmed down.
"Munira, can you answer me why Zainab wanted to visit you yesterday night?" asked Harrison
She shook her head.
"I don't know, she called me a couple of times. But she didn't leave a message," she replied.
I Inwardly growled. There had to be more to it.
"Can you think of any reason, why she wanted to see you specifically so bad? So much so that she couldn't wait?" asked Harrison.
Instantly the girl froze as if a thought hit her. We held our breath waiting for her answer.
"She must have found something regarding the exchange students documents," she replied.
"Wait. What student documents and why did she have them in the first place?" asked Harrison surprised.
She bit her lip guiltily, she looked around scared.
"Neither she nor you will get in trouble. Now, can you answer my question? Your friend's life is at stake here," urged Harrison.
