Chapter 7: DECISION IS MADE

It was a normal Saturday. Hilwa and feenah were in the kitchen helping the cook, Mairo with today's lunch.

Cooking was one of the things hilwa enjoyed doing since she was so little but Ummi would only allow her to cut some vegetables or put in some ingredients. It was always fun to her and she still had that strong liking for it.

She was carefully cutting spinach on the dashboard but was completely lost in a world of her own. There was a question that kept bugging her for the past few months. She knew that it was absolutely none of her business but she still needed an answer.

And without a second thought she blurted out, "Where is Ya Naim's mother?"

Feenah who was sitting on the kitchen island swinging her legs and licking a maggi cube, suddenly lifted her eyebrows up "I'm sure you heard him mentioning Ammiey right?"

After a moment of thought, hilwa quickly nodded.

After licking her maggi she answered "Good! That's his mother"

Hilwa's brows furrowed, her question was still not properly answered and as if feenah was reading her mind she said "I have never seen her too only in pictures, but i heard daddy and her separated since Ya Na'im was a baby"

"Really?" Hilwa couldn't hide the shock on her face.

"She is living with her new husband in England, she has two daughters khadijah and Zara, they are so cute, they look like arabs" Feenah gushed.

"Wow!" Hilwa breathed out placing the knife she was holding beside the dashboard.

"Surprised huh?" Feenah chuckled seeing the expression on her face.

"Very!"

"Well, that's basically the only thing i know about his other family, i want to meet them tho" Feenah pouted "Especially the little cute girl zara"

Hilwa smiled "You will in shaa Allah and please stop licking that maggi, its so disgusting"

"Okay mother" Feenah rolled her eyes before jumping down off the kitchen island to the ground

"Tell me honestly, do you enjoy here?" Feenah asked seriously "You know i just can't imagine myself living in a complete different place without my mother or any of my siblings, It must be really hard for you"

Hilwa shrugged as she felt her eyes suddenly brewing with tears. "It's really hard" She said frankly "Before, there were times I couldn't even sleep a wink. Not in my wildest dreams did I ever think that someday I'd be living without ummi, twins or meeno"

She drew in a sharp breath, plastering a sad smile on her face as she glanced at feenah "But you made and still make everything so easy for me. I'm really grateful for you and I appreciate everything you do."

"Awwwwn! This is probably the nicest thing anyone has ever told me" Feenah excitedly jumped and engulfed her in a bear hug.

Once they pulled away, Aunty called Feenah from the living room.

"Are you done cutting the spinach?" Mairo who'd been busy making the soup, asked.

"No but I'm almost done" Hilwa grinned.

"Alright, the soup is done, i will go and start arranging the dining table"

"Okay"

Hilwa continued to cut the spinach. She'd gotten so engrossed that she didn't even know when layla came into the kitchen and stood at the other side of the island.
