Bethany Walker had only been to two funerals in her life, her great uncle that she barely knew and her best friend. Her great uncle died when she was 11 and he died of old age, at the funeral Bethany hid behind her mother the whole time and didn't speak to anyone. But her best friend's funeral was a totally different story, one because she loves her best friend more than anyone and second because it hadn't happened yet.
On the 7th of October the Johnson family home went up in flames, the father and mother were out on a date, but their teenage daughter was still inside sleeping. The daughter, Veronica, never made it out alive. The paramedics and firefighters tried to save her, but it was no use, she had died long before they had arrived. When Bethany got a call from Veronica's mom at 3:00am she found it bizarre that it wasn't Veronica, but when she heard Veronica's mom crying over the phone she immediately became terrified. when Bethany found out about her best friend passing away she had a breakdown, but not just any breakdown, Bethany was committed into an asylum for 2 weeks.
The night of the fire, Bethany had broken into the Johnson home without being noticed by the cops or the firefighters. She spent most of the night in Veronica's almost fully burnt room crying on her fully burnt bed until the cops came in with the Johnsons to show them the damage and found a 16-year-old girl lying in their now deceased daughter's bed. Bethany was calmly moved by the police officers without her recognition and brought back to her own bed. But when Bethany woke up she threw a fit and ended up breaking half of her mother's plates. After that night her mother had her committed.
"Beth, where did you go?" Veronica screamed down the halls of high school to her best friend who just so happened to have run off when Veronica brought up the topic of homecoming. "Beth, you couldn't have gotten far, you're not that fast." Once Veronica got close enough Bethany jumped out, scaring her best friend.
"Please Roni, let's forget about homecoming, we still have 9 months till we have to worry."
Veronica didn't get to go to homecoming, the fire stole that from her. Bethany couldn't imagine going to homecoming without her best friend, so she decided the night of the fire that she wouldn't be going to homecoming. Not this year, not ever. Even before the fire, Bethany didn't want to go to homecoming, not because she couldn't get a date, because she could, every guy at her school would kill for the chance to take her to homecoming. She was beautiful, she had light brown hair and beautiful blue eyes.
Bethany was standing in the hallway of her crummy high school with at least 7 guys standing around her. Some she knew, some she had just met and others who just wandered over when they heard her voice. Bethany was like a siren, luring men to her and making them bend at her will, she was sought after by every guy in the entire school. She never fell for any of those guys, she broke hearts but never had hers broken. She flirted with them and lead them on, but she never went out with them. Veronica was right next to Bethany, but she didn't have the same alluring effect Bethany did on guys.
Bethany had never had a boyfriend, even thought the boys threw themselves at her, she never saw the point of dating guy after guy trying to find the one that could put up with her and calm the storm inside of her. Bethany isn't a drama queen, but she is hot tempered and prone to outbursts, she doesn't think about the consequences of her actions which normally doesn't end well. She acts impulsively and tends to lash out. Bethany wasn't met a guy yet that has been able to put up with her except her best guy friend, Finn. Finn has been in Bethany's life since they were little kids, 5 years old to be precise. He is the only one who was ever been able to calm Bethany down, even her own parents can't calm her down when she lashes out.
"Finn, come out, come out where ever you are." Bethany sung, she was at Finn's house playing hind and seek with Finn. Bethany wasn't the best at hide and seek so Finn always hid in the most obvious places, like behind a lamp or under the blankets. He didn't like it when Bethany had a hard time finding him because she would always get this sad look on her face that would destroy him every time she made it. He was hiding behind the curtains in the main living room when his mother called them to the kitchen for lunch. He pulls the curtains to the side and is greeted by Bethany standing extremely close to his face, he jumps out of shook and screams a rather high pitch scream.
"Beth, you always do that to me. Did you tell my mom to say it's lunch just to get me out of my hiding spot?"
"Maybe..." They both went to the kitchen side by side, but to Finn's surprise there really was food set out on the table. Bethany was good at finding new ways to get Finn out of his hiding spots, a lot of the time she would get his mom to call him out for any reason but once Finn got out of his hiding spot he was quick to discover that he had been fooled. They went upstairs into Finn's room to work on their homework.
Bethany isn't the best student at school nor did she try the hardest, but she got okay grades, good enough where she was never scared of failing but she didn't try and get the highest grade in the class either. Bethany is incredibly smart only she doesn't apply her self, she gets 70% average without trying but ever since Veronica's death she has been focusing on school and trying to drown out the world with school work. Whenever Bethany found herself remembering the night of the fire she pulls out her biology textbook and reads over one of the many chapters she has yet to learn about in class.
Today is just a normal school day for Bethany, except that Bethany wasn't experienced a regular school day in so long that she can't remember what it fells like. Bethany gave up on trying to look her best a long time ago, she went to her closet and pulled out a white cropped sweatshirt with a pair of black and white jogging shorts. She grabbed her black baseball hat to cover her tired face and put on a pair of black converse. Once she is fully dressed she goes downstairs to make herself a bagel before Finn comes to pick her up for school. As she is taking her first bite of her bagel she hears a knock at her front door.
"Come in." A boy with semi-long hair and beautiful brown eyes walks through the door. "Hey Finn, I'm just finishing my bagel and then we can go." After finishing her bagel Bethany and Finn get in Finn's car to drive of to school.
