♠️Chapter 23✖Bygones❌

Start from the beginning

I frowned. "I'm not."

"Yes, you are. You haven't been to therapy for your leg since I got here. Now your not going to check on Diana."

My hand touches my small growing beard. I sighed heavily. "Fine, I'll go check things out with Diana. But Katherine is gonna have to stay with you."

Amanda groans. "Whatever just go see Diana," Amanda says. "Go before your sadness starts to spread."

Just then Katherine walks into the room, laying her purse down on the small brown desk. "I am not watching Amanda just so you can go see that girl." Is the first thing she says.

Groaning, I pinch the bridge of my nose. "I'm not doing this with you today Katherine. Amanda is your daughter, therefore you have to watch her."

"You're not going to see that girl. I forbid it!" She sneers.

Rising to my feet, I stare at her like she's lost her mind. "Forbid it? We're not in the eighteenth hundred century, Katherine. You can't forbid me to do anything!"

"Can't you see what she's doing to you?" She screeched. "She's changing you, corrupting your brain. That's what her kind does."

"Stop with this "Her kind" bullshit!" I yelled. "How much times do I have to tell you to stay out of my life?" I questioned. "Your so frustrating, always adding yourself in things that don't involve you."

"Don't speak to me that way Levi. I am your mother!

I scoffed. "Since when?" I asked. Katherine doesn't say anything. "Exactly you can't even answer the question."

I grabbed my coat making my way towards the door.

"When that girl breaks your heart, don't come running to me," Katherine says.

I turn around facing her. "I'll be sure not too." And with that being said, I walked out if the hospital room.

The cold licked at my face and crept under my clothes, spreading across my skin. With each breath, more heat rose in puffs of white vapor, with each gust of the wind more heat dissipated into the whiteness. It was only six in the afternoon, yet the city was busy. You could hear the incessant honking of the vehicles, the impatient businessmen who talked on their cell phones and the loud music that the teenagers played through their speakers.

I trudged along the hallway at a sedate pace, my mind focused on Diana. Reaching her apartment door, I knocked, waiting for someone to answer. The locks to the door unlocked, and the doorknob twists. Skyler stepped out, making sure to shut the door behind her.

"Hey mate now's really not a good time." She says, giving me a small smile. Her eyes had bags under them, and her short hair was all over the place. She looked depressed.

"I need to speak to Diana," I said. "It's an emergency." I quickly added.

Skyler closes her eyes for a moment, before opening them. "She can't come to the door right now."

My face turns into a frown. "Why not?"

"She's busy with something," Skyler says, biting the inside of her cheeks.

'She's lying.'

"Skyler, stop lying to me and just let me in so I can see her."

Guilt flashes in her eyes. "I'm sorry mate, but you can't see her."

"Wh--" Before I could finish my question the door to the apartment opened, and Agent Scott steppes out. His face was stern and his eyes were narrowed.

"You need to leave." He says, crossing his arm.

My fist ball up. "Not before I see Diana," I said.

"What part of she's busy do you not understand?" He questioned.

"She's my girlfriend, and I want to see her. Therefore, I'm not leaving her before I see her."

Agent Scott scowls at me. "Aren't you an amputee?" He questions. My face forms into a glare. "I'm gonna take your silence as a yes." He says. "Look, Levi, if you don't want to become a cripple, you best of take your ass home."

Skyler gasp, quickly punching Agent Scott in the face. His hands instantly go to his nose, and he moans in pain.

"You asshole, that was a low blow. I know you're helping us, but mind your tongue mate." Skyler says, bending down to his height. "Or your nose won't be the only thing getting punched." She threatens.

Blood spills from agents Scott's nose, he raises to his feet sending Skyler a deadly glare. "Bitch!" He mumbles walking into the house.

"Aren't we all," Skyler said. She turns to me, looking at me carefully. "I'm sorry he said that to you. But please for the safety of you and the ones you love, go home."

"Is she okay?" I asked. Skyer hesitates for a minute before nodding. "I'll go then," I said, walking away from their apartment.

I sat on the old green couch, trying to clear my mind. My fingers tapped the dusty boards as I sat back and listened to music. With eyes closed, my mind flooded with images of Diana.

"Why is it so hard to stop thinking about her," I mumbled. The doorbell snapped me out of my thoughts, I jumped like the button was hardwired to my brain and strode off to the door. Opening the door, I saw the last person I thought I would see today.

"We need to talk."
