Liz awoke to the sounds of a ruckus in the next room.
Oh God, thought Liz, what is it now?
Fighting the sleep she rousted herself off of the couch and began to make it down the hallway to Mandy's room. As she grew closer she realized it was not fighting or argument, but laughter and music. She opened the door to find Mandy, 2Fly, and Rick all spread out on Mandy's giant bed. The room was so thick with a hanging yellow smoke, she could barely see across the room.
Rick had a tiny Casio keyboard in his hands that was playing a tinny waltz beat. He played along the melody to Afroman's Because I Got High on it.
"I was gunna be a UN ambassador, until I got high," sang Mandy, "I was going to change this whole big world, until I got high. But now I'm managing music and I know why!"
Rick and 2Fly chimed in with Mandy, "Because I got high, because I got high, because I got high!"
"I was gunna pop this sucker in the mouth before I got high," sang 2Fly pointing his fist in Rick's direction, "My mistress sent me too my room, before I got high. But now I'm chillin' out, and I know why!"
Everyone but Liz sang, "Because I got high, because I got high, because I got high!"
"I'm stinking like the road, so I could get high," sang Rick, "I was running on overload, so I could get high. But now I'm hanging out with 2Fly!"
"Nice working in shout-out," said Mandy before they all rang into, "Because I got high, because I got high, because I got high!"
Everyone turned to look and Liz who felt trapped in the headlights of their blazed looks. Rick kept repeating the intro on the keyboard.
"Come on, Liz, your turn," said Mandy.
Liz didn't know what to do. Singing, let alone coming up with words wasn't really her forte. She simply through her arms up into the air and said, "Yeah! Everyone's high! Is there any beer left?"
Rick snapped the power switch on the keyboard to the off position.
"Well," said Rick almost mournfully, "I guess that is the end of that."
Before Liz could even react to Rick's harsh comment, Mandy slapped Rick on the back hard enough to knock him over on the bed.
"Don't be mean to the girl," said Mandy. "Besides we have to get ready for the battle." Mandy motioned to 2Fly it was time for them to leave the room.
"The battle?" Asked Liz.
"Yes, 2Fly has a performance tonight, you picked a good day to show up," said Mandy.
"I don't know," said Liz, "I'm pretty tired."
"Nonsense," said Mandy putting her hand on Liz's shoulder, "Rick is coming and you are too. Don't worry, I'll buy you a beer or two when we get there. It's no fair you having to be sober."
"Rick," said Mandy before exiting the room, "change into some pants. Without the cowboy hat, it just looks like you're wearing a dress. And take a shower, you stink."
"Liz," said Mandy turning to her, "feel free to borrow some clothes if you need too." With that she shut the door.
"You can go ahead first," said Rick to Liz. "Theshower is through that door there. I got to get some things out of the car."
