You worked at shield andwere personal assistant to Nick Fury, the current Director ofS.H.E.I.L.D. It was your job to anticipate his needs for the day andmake sure every thing ran smoothly for him, which, of course, itnever did. You were Fury's assistant for many years before you weretransferred to assist Agent Phil Coulson with the recruitment of TheAvengers Initiative. This is where you excelled. You would gatherintel and put together for potential recruits files for AgentCoulson.
Coulson appreciated all thework you did for him. All the late nights, early mornings, andfrequent all-nighters. He couldn't have asked for a better assistant. You went above and beyond as much as you could, so you wouldn't gettransferred to a more boring position within the agency. So the dayyou got the email about being transferred again, you were shocked. You didn't understand why you were being transferred again, had youstarted to slack? Were you not pulling enough all-nighters? Therewere so many more thoughts that were going through your head as youmade the long, torturous trek to Director Fury's office.
Once the elevator opened tothe top floor, you saw Agent Coulson waiting by the elevator. Hesmiled at you once the doors opened and saw you.
"Agent (l/n), thank youfor coming." He smiled, stretching out his arm indicating thedirection he wanted you to walk.
"Agent Coulson." Youreplied, giving him a sad smile as you looked at him. As the two ofyou walked to Director Fury's office, you couldn't help but noticethe spring in his step, the glimmer in his eyes, and the sheergiddiness he seemed to be trying to contain. Was he really that eagerto get rid of you? You thought that the two of you worked welltogether and didn't understand why he was having you transferred. So,you decided to ask. You stopped and looked at your feet, trying tothink of the best way to ask. He quickly noticed you were no longerwalking beside him and stopped to look back at you.
"Agent ____, is everythingall right?" he asked, concern written all over his face. You took adeep breath before replying.
"Why am I beingtransferred? Was I not doing a good enough job? Because if you tellme what I was doing wrong, I can work on it and do better! PleasePhil, I don't want to be transferred! I really enjoy working with youand everything we do. I can be a better agent, just please, give me asecond chance!" You pleaded, your voice was shaky, but there wereno tears in your eyes.
"You think you're beingtransferred because you've done something wrong?" He asked, usingyour first name as well. The two of you had become good friends andyou saw him more as a mentor and uncle than anything else.
You just nodded, avoidingmaking any kind of eye contact with him as he walked closer to you.You weren't sure if you'd be able to handle whatever it was, that hewas about to say. Letting out a heavy sigh, he gently placed a handon your shoulder and smiled.
"Believe me, if it was mychoice, you wouldn't be transferred. I don't think this program wouldhave been half as successful without all your help. This is less of atransfer and more like a promotion." Your head jerked up at themention of promotion, your eyes wide and not sure if you heard himright.
"A promotion?" youquestioned.
"Yes, but, that's forDirector Fury to tell you about. Whom we probably shouldn't keepwaiting."
