She scrolled through the instagram feed, her self-esteem pulverizing,
As she woefully recalled the days of her classmates' sneering.

For she was a plain Jane among pretty girls and boys,
"Ugly," remarked the callous world and they weren't just muffled noise.

It hit, bruised and ruined her hard and raw,
For now she thought her entire appearance was a colossal flaw.

She wanted to be skinny, beautiful and invincible,
So salads were the only food she decided to nibble.

She bleached her smooth, cinnamon coloured skin,
And went under plastic surgery to lose her whimsical grin.

It hurt, it hurt, it hurt!
At least now the world wouldn't consider her as appalling dirt.

At least now she wouldn't go unnoticed like little specks of dust,
For now people ogled at her with yearning lust.

Her skirt too short and top too tight,
She now glistened in a different light.

Snide, little comments were still thrown her way,
Like she wasn't a human, but a doll moulded out of clay.

Before she was called a dull mutt,
But now, she was labelled a derogatory slut.

So much of strenuous efforts she went through,
Nobody had a single clue.

The attrocious world would continue to mock and laugh at her,
Until she would learn to laugh back and truly become invincible.
