I was silent, not able to give him an answer to those questions. I felt a lump in my throat as I struggled to keep it together and I watched his eyes soften. "Come here." he whispered and I ran into his arms, burying my face in his chest.

I let out a shaky breath and gripped his shirt as I tried my hardest not to break down. Alesandro needed me to be strong, not vulnerable. Eli's arms wrapped around me ans he rubbed my back slowly, murmuring assurances into my ear.

"How long ago was he taken?" I heard Ramsey ask.

"About an hour, from his scent in the room he was sleeping in." Mellie answered and I leaned my head back, eyes wide.

"An hour?" I asked incredulously. Eli looked down at me and cupped the side of my neck. I ignored the warmth that spread through me from his touch, wanting to focus on the situation at hand. Our kidnapped son.

"My parents sent him to bed early, and when they went to check on him, he was gone. Roman left a note. He's working with Nadia." A bitter tone laced Eli's words as he said her name and I watched his eyes darken for a second before turning back to their regular color. "Mellie, go get my parents and bring them to the meeting room. Ramsey, wake the royals and send them to the meeting room as well. This is a deliberate attack on the kingdom."

I looked over my shoulder to see both of them nod before Mellie grabbed Ramsey's hand and ran, leaving a trail of feathers as they disappeared. When we were alone, I glanced up at Eli to see him deep in thought, his thumb absently caressing the side of my neck. "So, what's our plan?" I asked.

"There's no, 'our'. You're staying right here when we go to find Roman. I don't know his end game, but I'm sure he's not going down without a fight. Maybe even a war." I reared back, narrowing my eyes.

"You must be out your fucking mind if you think I'm going to stay right here and not do a damn thing to help find my son." I snapped, stepping out of his arms.

"I just don't want you to get hurt."

I scoffed, and felt the urge to knock some sense into him. "I'm not human anymore. I can take care of myself." Eli didn't say anything and I shook my head and moved around him to start walking away to make a plan of my own, when his words stopped me.

"You're pregnant." he blurted out and I froze, leaning my head to the side as I stepped back into his line of vision.

"Excuse me?" I blinked up at him, daring him to repeat the words I was pretty sure I misheard. I watched his Adam's apple bob as he swallowed and he looked away for a second before turning those baby blues back in my direction.

"You're...pregnant."

My sudden laugh surprised me as much as it surprised him, from the small jump he did when it erupted from my lips. "I'm...pregnant!" I laughed, bending over and hitting my knee. "Oh, god, that's the funniest shit I've heard all day. Pregnant--"

"Alice-"

"I'm not pregnant, Eliezer." I interrupted him. "I don't have morning sickness, I'm not unusually tired, I don't have any weird diet changes-"

"Female demons don't go through the same things human females do. There's no morning sickness because you can't get sick. You don't get tired unless you allow yourself to, and you don't need food to survive, so your diet won't change." Eli explained, walking closer to me. "The only indicators are that you get a sudden vision of being in the fetus' point of view and you may or may not faint. Depends on the female. And your scent changes."

My mind flashed to earlier that day, after I met Ramsey and I shook my head, not wanting to believe it was true.

"If I'm pregnant-" I began, chuckling humorlessly. "-that means you weren't shooting blanks, which according to Damien, you guys apparently can do. And if you weren't shooting blanks..." I sobered up quickly as my thoughts took another direction. "Did you get me pregnant on purpose?"
