chapter nine
confrontation

Millie stomped up the school hallway towards Caleb's locker and stares at him.

"Um, Hi?" Caleb says

"Do you know what's wrong with Sadie today?" Millie asks folding her arms

"Um, No." Caleb shook his head

"Have you talked to her lately? She just blew up on me." Millie says

"I talked to her last night but she seemed perfectly okay." Caleb says

"Last night? What'd you talk about?" Millie asks

"Oh- um, just some, uh, school stuff." Caleb says awkwardly

"Oh god, you two weren't-" Millie know Caleb was lying but he cut her off.

"No! No. Ew." Caleb says

"Then what were you doing?" Millie asks

"We weren't doing anything just talking." Caleb says avoiding what him and Sadie talked about.

Millie waited for Caleb to continue and tell her what they discussed.

Caleb sighs. "Fine, if I tell you what I asked her promise you will never tell anyone and that you'll still be my friend."

Millie nods knitting her eyebrows together.

"I...I asked if you had a boyfriend, and she said you liked Finn." Caleb says

Millie gasps. "I know what's wrong with her! Thanks Caleb!" Millie ran out of the school all the way to Sadie's house.

Once Millie arrived at the Sink home she knocked on the door until someone answered. Sadie opened the door.

"I thought I said to leave me alone." Sadie says

"Look Sadie, are you mad at me and Caleb because Caleb said he liked me?" Millie asks

"Wouldn't you be mad if Finn had a crush on me?" Sadie asks ignoring the question

"I'd be mad, but I wouldn't just ignore my best friend forever." Millie says

"Okay Millie did you just come here to shame me for all of my choices?" Sadie asks

"No of course not. I just don't want you to be mad at me?" Millie says

"Look my parents aren't home and I'm busy cleaning the house will you just leave?" Sadie asks

"Sadie?! Who's at the door?" A deep voice calls from inside.

"Sadie... Who's in there?" Millie asks

"Nobody."

The door is opened farther as a curly black haired boy opens it.

"Finn?" Millie says and looks at Sadie for an explanation.
