We pull into the doctor's office parking lot, and I can't stop fidgeting. I park in a spot close to the door. I take a deep shaky breath, and Mike looks over at me.
"You alright?" I nod, but I don't say anything. He puts his hand on my knee. "You'll be fine, Cass. Why are you so afraid?" I shrug.
"I don't know. I just am." I take another deep breath before slowly climbing out of the car. We walk in, and I go sit down while Mike signs me in. He sits down next to me and sighs.
"There a little bit behind according to the woman at the desk." I shrug and pull out my lap top. I shop when I get nervous. I go back to Café Press hoping to find something else for the babies. I search for a minute. I laugh when I find what I want. Mike looks at me, so I open it up and show it to him. He starts to laugh, so I order two of them for my sons. It's a white bib that says "Daddy help! Mommy put my cape on backwards!"
A couple in their late twenties/early thirties start staring at us. We quit laughing. I exit out of Café Press. I pull my head phones out of my pocket and plug them into my lap top. I put one in my ear and hand the other to Mike. He puts it in his ear, and I start playing the song I was listening to earlier.
He's trying hard not to cry by the end of the song. He squeezes my knee and smiles at me. "That is the best song I've ever heard." I smile. Just then, a nurse comes through the door and calls my name. I close my lap top and stand up. Mike does as well. I grab my lap top bag and fallow the woman into the door she had just come out of.
"Alright, dear, first thing first. We need to weigh you in. Can you take off your shoes and step on the scales please." I nod, to nervous to speak, and do what she says. She rights down my weight on her clip board then leads me into a doctor's office. "The doctor will be with you in just a minute." She walks out the door, closing it behind her.
I sit down on the exam table, and Mike sits down on one of the two chairs next to it. He grabs my hand, and we sit in silence.
When the doctor comes, she tells us her name is Dr. Macyn. She runs a bunch of test before giving me an ultrasound. Mike smiles when he sees our babies for the first time. After the ultrasound, Dr. Macyn says that everything looks fine, but she wants me to come back in two weeks.
We leave shortly after that. She gives us pictures of the ultrasound, which I let Mike keep. I have plenty at home from my past Doctor's appointments. I drop him off at his house before driving home. I am exhausted, and all I want to do is go to sleep. Of course, I'll have to take care of the dogs first, but that won't take too long.
I'm just pulling into my driveway when my phone starts ringing. I answer it without looking.
"Hello."
"Cassidy." I jump and almost drop my phone. How?
"Dad?"
