Cassandra quickly gets Sargent Whats-His-Name on the phone. She puts him on speaker phone, and he answers after two rings.
"Sargent H.D. Wellsworth. How may I help you?" I want to laugh at how professional he sounds, but hold back.
"Hello. My name is Cassandra Paine, and I am calling on behalf of your beneficiary, Cassidy Williams." Sargent Whats-his-name sighs.
"What did she do?" It's harder for me to hold back laughter this time, but I manage.
"Oh, she hasn't done anything, Sargent Wellsworth. Actually, she has a question for you, and didn't know how to get ahold of you."
"Well, what's her question?"
"You see, before her father was transferred to Cape Coral, she lived in D.C. And she was wondering if she could move back here since she no longer has any real need to be in Florida anymore." There is silence on the other end of the line for a minute. We all hold our breath, waiting for his answer.
"If she wants to, I don't see why not."
"Yes!" I blush and cover my face with my hands at my sudden outburst. Mike and Cassandra start laughing.
"I'll take that to mean that she wants to." He lets out a small chuckle.
"Yes. I think she would."
"So, where is she at now?"
"Well, right now, she's staying here in D.c. at my house."
"Well, if she wants, she can stay there, and we'll have all of her stuff packed up and brought to her. We'll even find her a house." I can't help but smile. I'm coming back home.
"That would be very much appreciated, Sargent Wellsworth. Thank you."
"You are very welcome, Miss Paine. However, I will need to come up there and see Miss Williams to have her fill out some papers. Is she free tomorrow at noon?" Cassandra looks over at me, and I nod. My only plans I had made for tomorrow were to sleep, but that was only because I had planned to be up half the night driving.
"She sure is, Sargent."
"Great! Well, tell her to meet me at Dairy Queen around then, and we'll fill out the papers."
"Alrighty, then. I'll tell her."
"Good bye, Miss Payne."
"Good bye." She hangs up, and I shriek. Cassandra and Mike pull away, and Jace and Caitlin run into the kitchen, wondering what the noise was. They run over to me, and I pick them up and hug them.
When I set them back down, their mom picks them up, then goes to lay them down for their nap. I hadn't realized how late it was. Mike's phone starts ringing. He has it set on the island, and caller I.D. says Alex. I pick it up before he has the chance to and answer it.
"Hello."
"Cass! What are you still doing here?" I pull my head away from the phone a little as she tries to blow my ear drums. Mike laughs, and I know he heard her too.
"Well, I'm going to be staying for a little while longer." Mike laughs again.
"How long is a little while, and why am I just know finding out about this?"
"Because, I just found out."
"Okay, so how long are you staying?"
"Well... I... Will..." I purposely go slow to annoy her.
"Out with it!" I laugh again.
"I am moving back."
"WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I jump and drop the phone. I'm pretty sure she just killed my right ear, and even Mike is wincing in pain from how loud she was. I pick the phone back up and put it on speaker phone.
"That's right."
"Oh my gosh, that is so awesome!"
"Be quiet, Jace and Caitlin are asleep."
"Well it is."
"I know Alex." She laughs.
"So, what do you guys want to do today?" I look over at Mike, and he shrugs.
"Let'[s go to the pet store."
