Name: Amelia Dellos

Where are you from? Chicago, IL USA

What inspired you to write your winning story? It was the main character Delilah. She haunted me for years until finally I sat down to write her story. So often the hero in a hero's journey is a man. I wanted to take a meek scared of her own shadow character and watch as she becomes a powerful leader with a strong brave heart.

Where were you and what were you doing when you found out you won?

I honestly forgot it was the end of the month and that the Watty winners were going to be announced. I was at home getting ready to start my day job and had checked my Wattpad account and was like ... whaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What does winning a Watty Award mean to you? It means a lot to be in the top 50 out of 200,000 entries!!!! After sending my book out to agents and pitching at writers conferences, and hearing "I am just not passionate about the story. " Over and over again. I wasn't sure if I had a story. If I had completely wasted years of my life writing this book. Wattpad provides an excellent platform to get your work out there, interact with your readers, and meet other writers. I am so grateful that I had a place to publish my work.

Give us your Wattys acceptance speech.According to Rocky, "It ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!" Writing, editing, publishing a novel is like getting in a boxing ring, you have to get up every time you get knocked down. I have been knocked down a lot. I am so lucky I have a family that believes in me and won't let me give up. I want to dedicate my Watty to my husband Eric and to my daughter Alena.
