Chapter 22

It was the gentle breeze on my face that grudgingly made me open my eyes. Only to stare into a pair of hazel eyes, I smiled lazily.

"Salaam Yahya," I yawned.

"Salaam Zai, how are you feeling?" he winked.

I got up stretching, I looked around to find my father and Yunus talking to each other.

Oh boy, how long was it going to take before they figure out what I did?

"I'm not sure Yahya, it depends on how it goes," I smiled nervously.

Yahya raised an eyebrow before a grin broke across his face.

"What did you do?" he asked.

I scrunched up my nose.

"What makes you think I did something?" I questioned crossing my arms.

"Please Zai, you look like you're about to hyperventilate," he teased.

"I do not.....Do I?" I asked twisting my hands.

"Yup, one look at you and Dad will know," he chuckled.

I glared at him.

"You're not helping at the moment," I huffed.

I looked at Yahya closely. I noted the dark circles under his eyes; he looked worn out and tired.

So the anonymous email wasn't wrong, I thought.

Sam was in trouble, why else would Yahya look like this?

"I heard the news," I said.

He looked at me confusedly.

"News? what news?" he questioned.

I raised an eyebrow, what other news could there possibly be.

"I don't know, isn't there any big news going around?" I asked tilting my head.

He looked worriedly around, not meeting my eyes. He scratched his head, a clear sign that he was a) going to lie or b) change the subject.

"Nope no news, how was Italy? Why are you back so early?" he questioned unconsciously cracking his knuckles.

A bad habit he picked up when he was younger. He only does it when he is nervous, most people don't pick up on it. I didn't know whether to question him further or let it drop.

"Zainab," called my dad deciding for me.

I turned toward him a smile grazing my lips. I jumped off the bed and hurried toward him. Last time I had seen my dad, he was in the hospital. I threw my arms around him, feeling like a small child again.

"I missed you kid," he said foundly.

"I missed you too. I'm so glad you're ok," I replied placing a kiss on his cheek.

"Alhamdulillah," he said stepping back to look at me closely

He placed a kiss on my forehead and squeezed me a second time.

"There is much we must talk about," he said looking at all of us.

"The agents will soon be here, and then we will jump right into it," he said.
