Annabelle and her American friends made their way back to the hotel, laughing and joking the entire time. She even got Jesse to warm up to her, though only a little bit. He had moved from grunts to actual words, which Annabelle found to be a huge upgrade.
When they reached the third floor of the hotel, Connie paused. "You sure you're ready for this, Annie?"
Annabelle nodded, "Bring it. Can't be worse than my team."
Charlie cast a wary look to Luis, who let out a deep breath. "I don't know... our team is, uh, unique."
Annabelle shook her head, laughing lightly, "Oh, come on. I'm a big girl. I can handle a few rowdy teens. Besides, haven't I met most of them?"
Charlie nodded, "Well, yeah. But-"
"All in the same place?" Connie finished for him, giving the Canadian a scared look. She leaned forward. "It's a nightmare," she whispered, causing Annabelle to laugh.
"Just open the door, Charlie." Annabelle said, crossing her arms.
Charlie did as he was told, and as soon as the door was open, loud yells filled Annabelle's ears. The five boys stepped in first, and Connie walked in right after them, dragging Annabelle behind her.
"Guys!" Charlie shouted, trying to get everyone's attention.
When not everyone quieted, it was Connie's turn. "HEY!" She screamed, causing everyone to quickly cease talking.
Charlie sighed, "Thanks, Connie." Connie smiled and gave him a curt nod. Charlie turned back to address the rest of his team, "We have a, er, a guest. Most of you have already met her, but, uh-"
"You're bad at this." Annabelle whispered, causing Charlie's cheeks to redden.
"Shut up, Annie." Charlie hissed, causing the girl to raise her palms.
As soon as Averman heard her name, he jolted up. "THE ANNE-STER!" He shouted, causing the Canadian to giggle.
"Hi Averman." She said quietly, giving the boy a wave.
When her small voice drifted through the air, Adam, who was sitting on the far side of the room, felt his body tense. He had purposefully not gone to her game today. He was trying to get her out of his head. He had to focus on hockey, and she was a distraction.
Thankfully, Fulton walked right in front of where Adam was sitting, making it so that Annabelle couldn't see him. "Hey, hoser. Long time no see." Fulton said, causing Annabelle to roll her eyes.
"Hi Fulton. And before anyone else says it, hello to all of you." She stated calmly, glancing around the room. There were actually only two people she was unfamiliar with; one small, petite boy, and one large, muscular boy. Standing next to each other, they were complete opposites.
The small one waved. "I'm Kenny. I-"
A shove from the larger boy shut him up. "No one asked, squirt." He sauntered over to Annabelle, who had to keep herself from taking a step backwards. She didn't want to be rude, but he was intimidating.
He stopped in front of her, a smirk on his face. "Now, what did they say your name was, babe?"
The room seemed to get silent as soon as the word left his lips. Annabelle felt her skin crawl. She was seriously getting the creeps.
Adam stiffened in his seat, Portman's words making his temper flare. But still he stayed glued to his spot, and instead of acting, he pushed the anger out of his mind.
It was Luis who took a defensive step closer to Annabelle, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Annabelle. Her name, is Annabelle. And you should call her that, not whatever other pet names you have up your sleeve, Portman."
