I smiled to myself as a group of kids skated past Marns and I. "You think you will ever have kids of your own one day man?"
I was thrown off guard by Mitch's question. As I thought about it, I saw Brynn walk out to the rink with skates on as she stepped onto the ice and glided across with Elle in her arms. Mitch stared at me for a moment and followed my gaze. He stared at Brynn for a moment and turned back to me. "You like her don't you?"
I turned back to Mitch and looked at him weird. "No. Of course not."
Mitch shook his head and mumbled a 'whatever' as he continued to skate with the little kids that were so desperately trying to get our attention. I waited for a moment then turned to skate up to Brynn. She was watching Elle try to skate and laughing as her daughter continued to fall back on her butt in defeat. "I could teach her if you'd like?"
I startled her with my question as she jumped and almost fell backwards. I grabbed her arms and pulled her up. "You scared me!"
I chuckled. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."
She smiled at me and turned toward Elle who was now crawling down the ice toward Freddie. "I wouldn't want to be a burden to you."
I shook my head. "Of course not. I'm offering. I'd love to teach her. Besides, she already seems to have FredEx won over."
As I said this, we both looked up and saw Freddie skating around the ice with Elle in his arms as she giggled at him. Brynn laughed quietly and turned back to me.
"I'd love to take you out again, you know."
She blushed and looked down. "This time with Elle. We could go to the park or come up here and have a little picnic on center ice. I could teach her how to skate and you could just sit and look beautiful just like you always do."
She laughed at me and shook her head. "You are truly something else Matthews. But yes, I would love to go on another date with you. That picnic idea, you might be on to something."
She smiled at me and leaned up to give me a kiss on the cheek. I smiled down at her and she skated off to get Elle from Frederik, who looked like he was about to fight off anyone who tried to pry the little girl from his grasp.
