"Will you please be quiet!" I said, anger rolling through my veins as I came to a stop.

"There is-" I turned, starting to stay, only to halt as I noticed something.

"Where are the kids?"

"What?" Jack said, turning to follow my gaze to the empty forest behind us.

"Oh great...." He muttered.

Seething, I said, "This is your fault."

"Wha- wait!" He called as I turned and made my way back "how is this my fault?"

I didn't answer with words, I only threw him a glare.

He winced.

Good... I thought as I scanned the forest grounds.

How far behind did they fall?

"Swift! Bar- mph!" Spade started but I cut him off

"What are you doing?" I said as covered his mo9uth and pushed him against the trees.

His muffled response came through my hands.

Eyes narrowed, I gave him some space to talk.

"What does it look like I was doing? I was calling out to them" he said, annoyance slipping through his tone.

Good.

"And what made you think that's a good idea?" I sneered "Especially in a forest that holds a serpent's path?"

"Ah- oh..." He said as realisation sunk in.

"Yes, 'oh'" I said sarcastically as I let him go.

"No come on S-"

As bang ran through the forest.

Our glances met.

And then we went running.

Please be safe Swift.... I thought as we moved with inhuman speed, the adrenaline in my bones bringing about a rush and plucking at an old, dusty part of me.
